Hey all. I've been a long time lurker looking to get back into 40k after about a year's absence. In fact, I've signed up for my first GT and wanted to go over a Nid list and see what constructive critisims I can get on it. Ok, here goes:

Biomorphs: Adrenal Glands (+1 I & WS), Enhanced Senses, Extended Carapace, & Scythe Tail
Total: 181pts.

ARMY TOTAL: 1,750pts.

I've had a chance to playtest this list a couple of times and in most cases I can get a strong first wave attack, but if I roll horribly or position wrongly, then the entire force crumbles. The numbers are nice, but there has been a couple problems with templates (I hate guard!). Other than that, the big bugs seem to take the brunt of the fire while the Lord and his retinue have been MVPs a few times by disrupting Dev fire and whatnot. The dual-purpose Fex has had a few moments where his CC morphs came in handy, but his gun is way more useful and I might change him to full-blown gunfex. Any thoughts?

I like the list. a nice balance force list.

Some comments and suggestions:
Flyrant: Warp field will be much more useful than anything else. That 2+ save makes a world of difference.
WS: this only helps against opponents with WS of 5, otherwise it is wasted points. How many of those will you be fighting?
I: This only helps against opponents with I of 5 or 6, otherwise it is wasted points. How many of those will you be fighting?
Hint: If the target has a high WS and I, it is the wrong type of target for your HT.
Toxin Sacs, will almost always be of help.

Elite fex: Will do much more damage with ES, rather than spinebanks

HGaunts: Against MEQ, you are better off with 17 HGaunts with +I and +Str. Against Guard, you don't even need the +I.

Stealers: Scuttlers is usually a good way of just getting the stealers shot faster. They get ahead with no support. Unless the BLord is directly ahead of them, and the scuttlers is just closing the gap. But with such a small retinue, you may get to infiltrate in some much better locations than directly in front.
Scuttlers will usually not let you get into CC any faster.
Now, if you had 4 broods with scuttlers....

Heavy fex: Your inclination is a good one. Mixing assignments usually doesn't work. Drop the CC biomorphs, get another gun

I like the list, let us know how things work out.

most of the list is A-OK.. but it has some big problems too.

Flyrant: If you want to keep him fairly cheap, just go with wings, 2x scytals, toxin sacs, and warp field. alittle more expensive than yours, but wounding MEQ on 2+ instead of 3+ is huge. Toxic Miasma is a better choice than +1 WS - it makes GEQ hit you on 5+ instead of 4+, which helps reduce those pesky swarms of models that get those odd one off wounds on you, when you only have that last wound left

Broodlord: No extended carapace on the retinue makes this squad bolter bait...

warriors and gaunts are all fine.

Dakkafex needs Enhanced senses instead of spinebanks. Even with twin linked, hitting on 5+ isn't too hot.

Then we hit the genestealers... this is a big problem of the list. No extended carapace makes them bolter bait, and presents the opponent with EASY victory points. When they have a choice between 5 point spinegaunts (that won't present a huge threat in combat) or 20 point genestealers (that do), it will be an easy choice of who to shoot. drop them, and get more gaunts.

The hugest offender in this list in the heavy fex... this guy has NO idea what he's doing. Drop all CC options, and get a barbed strangler on him. Also, Reinforced Chitin will be more useful (IMO) than extended carapace.

Make those changes and you'll be much better off IMO. You will still have alot of trouble with armies that bring tanks, having only one gunfex... but thems the breaks of using a swarm list

I agree with the above suggestions:

2 things I'd like to add:

1) 10 Warriors?  Nice.  I haven't seen a list with this many warriors in a while.  I always insist on using them.
2) Why not split up one of the gaunt (or hormagaunt) broods and use up your 6th Troops choice?  Gives you some more flexibility as well as an extra scoring unit (not to mention makes it easier to hide behind cover).
