If anyone has any questions about what's involved with volunteering for AdeptiCon, post them here and I'll answer them if I can. FYI, my official title is Marketing Coordinator, which means I'm in charge of writing our web chatter anouncements, interviewing our guests and instructors, and doing some graphic design-type stuff. It's great for me, because for all practical intents and purposes my marketing job is done once the AdeptiCon weekend begins, so I can enjoy myself and play some games. This year, I also started the BFG Championships, which went extremely well. For me, after three years of Iron Man competition, it was nice to not have to worry about playing on Sunday. I'm already looking forward to running the event next year.

Most of the volunteers at AdeptiCon will pitch in for a day (or two), and spend the other day(s) playing in tournaments, attending seminars, etc. We're definitely looking for anyone with a love for the hobby who wants to contribute to the greatest fan-run GW convention in the world.

One of the things we're definitely exploring for next year is finding a larger venue, as we're pretty much using our current venue to its capacity. We'd love to give the Fantasy side of the house a larger area than the Pavillion, and possibly expanding to a third hall in terms of floor space. There's all sorts of cool stuff we could do with a third hall - more demos, scenarioed games, Specialist Games tournaments...the list goes on. But to do that, we're going to also need to expand our volunteer staff, to make sure that whatever we do, we've got the personnel available to make sure that we maintain the level of quality that our attendees have become accustomed to.

So...if you've got any questions about volunteering, post them here, and if I can I'll answer them.

So you're the one who won the tournie with an Ork fleet?

Let me ask you a question: I've played all of like two games of BFG before (I didn't care that much for the game), but from everyone I've ever talked to they always say that Orks are the one fleet that is woefully underpowered in the game.

So tell a BFG noob like myself how you managed to win the tournie with that fleet? Is all the talk about Ork fleets sucking just BS? Or are there a couple of ways to play them effectively? Or are you just such an awesome player. . .

Orks are random, which makes them a bit difficult to use.

But they do have one area in which the really shine: boarding actions.

Deadshane understood the boarding action rules quite well.

Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

Not trying to hijack the thead or anything, but to quickly answer your question Yak....

Orks are awesome a couple of ways.  Tons of ordinance. (low leadership for reloading is countered by the amount of fleet RR's availiable to orks...more than anyone else.)

Also, simply irresistable boarding actions.  With larger kroozers, 10 hit points instead of the average 8 of other fleets, if orks get close with two warlord equipped Kroozers...the enemy ship is simply dead.

Only guys that subscribe to the Hulk/rok/ramship tactics for Orks think they are hideously underpowered.  Orks are actually quite strong if you know how to play them.  I only have trouble with eldar ships, and then only in open space.

Then there are simple tactics that SOO many players screw up on.  Divide and conquer is REALLY effective in gothic.  Also, people 'Brace for Impact' too often, its like they're afraid to take damage or something, I think I braced once maybe twice during the whole tournement.

Oh yea, and people that say ork fleets suck....

When you consider objective based missions and just a bit of terrain to work with...

yea, its BS

If you'd have room for a Warmaster Tournament, I'd volunteer to run that in a heartbeat.
