So I had an idea today...

In BFG Ork Pirates have Ramships, well I was thinking, what about ram trukks?! I mean, they have such low armour they usually get blown up anyhow, so may as well fill it with explosives and run it at enemy tanks or units!

For the rules themselves, it would be a vehicle upgrade:

Goes BOOM! - The Ork vehicle has (appropriately modeled) strapped on explosive devices, extra fuel tanks, and/or boxes of ammo (eg/ Imperial ammo even Orks couldn't make work in their guns?) and may purposefully detonate their payload. When they crew decides to set off the explosives (after setting down a nice big cinderblock on the accelerator and getting ready to jump), which they can do even after moving their full distance, roll 1D6+6. This is the number of inches that the explosion reaches out to. Any models caught within the blast take a wound on a 3+, armour saves apply. The vehicle is completely destroyed (the crew booking it for the horizon, but will come back later to pick up the pieces and make a new one!), leaves no wreck, and is considered destroyed in terms of victory points.
However, there is a chance that the payload can be set off before the crew intends. On any penetrating hit (ordnance or not) add an additional +1 to the roll. If the vehicle is considered destroyed by this hit, the payload detonates as per the above, any passengers take that damage instead of the usual.

What do you guys think? Dunno what points value it would cost. Any suggestions?

Another quality of the ramships is that they're heavily armored to the front; maybe give it a 13 front to show that. Don't make it Fast; it's too heavily loaded. Give it Turbo Boostas standard. For points, I'd say 75-90pts. per, maybe one squadron of 1-3 per FOC.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

I like the original idea, suicide trukks, but turn one they'll be the target of EVERYTHING.
If we took in sutekh's considerations, it'll be a slow (but still easy to destroy) bomb, in your own lines.

If at first you don't succeed, you fail.

That's why you deploy it off to the side. It's kinda like a Chaos Dread: you don't stick it where it'll shoot your own stuff if it fire-frenzies.  As to it being a target, that's kinda the point; the more shots they take at it, the less that is going at the rest of the army.

I'd cut out the "detonates on penetrating destroyed" bit, but make any explosive-ardius results either 2d6" or double the distance on the single d6.

I like the idea but the way to make it balanced is to say that it can only be detonated if the vehicle didn't move more than 12" (13" with a RPJ) that turn.

That way the trukk can still move fast enough to use terrain to block LOS, but the enemy would also get a chance to move units out of the way from the incoming threat.
