i have thought about doing this

Drop iron discipline, the lascannon and vox caster on the platoon command squad and all of the search lights.

Buy 4x plasma guns for the junior officer squad.

Drop all of the auto cannons down to multi lasers and drop the 3 plasma guns (moving the remaning one to the armored fist squad) OR the lascannon on the junior officer squadand iron discipline.

Buy 5 heavy stubbers for the transports that have the searchlights.

*transport* = chimera

                        Autocannon turret

                        Hull heavy bolter

sorry

Doctrines are mechanized, droop troops, iron discipline, close order drill, and maybe rough riders.

if i do rough riders i will most likely be using the FW death korps models as i wish to use the standard troopers as my troops and HQ units. doing mechinised to keep the price down =P

Drop all the voxes. Where is your standard bearer? You probably dont need the autocannons on the chimeras, the multilaser is a fine weapon. In any case no chimera upgrades at all as they blow up so easily. Drop trhe command squad lascanon - guess which one they shoot first?. Add in as many plasma rifles as you can afford.

For sentinels I use them with drop troop doctrines in a mech list and either autocannon or multilaser with HK missile. Sentinel lascannons just scream "shoot me with str 4 bolters"

Take a look around the forums for lots of good examples on how to efficiently use IG infantry. Just some basics:

1) Las/Plas or Autocan/Plas is usually the best armament for a squad. Vox casters are a waste...never get seperated from your Iron Discipline bubbles and you won't need them.

2) Sentinels are best used in force. Most efficient armament for them is autocannon, which outranges their main foe, the heavy bolter, and can damage vehicles or spatter medium infantry.

3) Chimerae do not make you mobile. They are cover and support.

Good luck! Mech Guard are 'ard, but need careful tweaking cause they dont have the numbers of infantry guard.

"Chimerae do not make you mobile. They are cover and support."

Unfortunately true. What you get is a shooty army with a lot of fragile & non-scoring units that maybe can move out in the last turns, but I usually find that the transports for full squads are destroyed/immobilized and vice versa, so it is iffy. This is why I am moving to Mech Sisters.

I would suggest the following basic outline:

JO w/Honorifica
Honor Guard w/Standard Bearer
2x Las Sentinel

Platoon A
Officer w/3 Flamers, Melta (Chimera: Multilaser/HB)
Las/Plas Squad (Chimera: Autocannon/HB)
Las/Plas Squad (Chimera: Autocannon/HB)

Platoon B
Officer w/3 Flamers, Melta (Chimera: Multilaser/HB)
Las/Plas Squad (Chimera: Multilaser/HB)
Las/Plas Squad (Chimera: Autocannon/HB)

2x Las Sentinel
6x Rough Riders
6x Rough Riders

Russ
Russ (or Demolisher)
Russ Demolisher

Cut the sentinels and RR if you need points. The key here is absolutely minimizing toys and maximizing troops/tanks. Chimera are tricky to use -- I would suggest a mix of armaments, since autocannons count as a "Main weapon," limiting your shooting in case you do need to move. The RR hide behind your Chimerae and dash for objectives....an allied Seraphim squad would also do well in this capacity.

Thoughts?
