So, after realizing that miniatures wargaming is not something that I'm going to outgrow, my girlfriend is thinking about test the waters and learning to play.  Based on her love of pink, motorcycles, and the daemonette models, she's more or less decided on a Slaanesh army.  She's the type to be pretty competitive, so I figure why not go all out and paint her the daemon bomb I've always wanted but I haven't had the motivation to play.

My plan is to start her with basic CSM troops in small (500pt games) so she learns the basics (moving, shooting, assault), and slolely ramp up the games and introduce daemons, wargear, psychic powers, etc.  My questions are thus:

Starting at about 1000pts, how hard is a daemonbomb to play?  Is it Wych cult in 4th ed tough, or space wolf rhino rush in 3rd ed easy?

What delivery mechanism is best suited for a daemonbomb, and is a pure bomb even the best way to go?  Would a black legion list, with shooty las/plas squads backing up a bike squad and tons of daemonettes better, or is pure termie/infiltrating/bike emperor's children the best way to build?

Daemonettes on steeds of slaanesh seem like an exensive but necessary buy, able to reach out and charge nearly anybody has to be incredible.  Is about right?

If you go bikes, do you run lord/lt, two lieutenants, or just one HQ?  chosen retinues or seperate bike squads?

If there is a Daemonbomb tactica that I've missed, I apologize for not finding it.  Also, I know there's a new Codex on the horizon, but this army is probobly going to be a summer project, and hopefully will be done before fall, or at the latest christmas.

Thanks for looking!

As to what the best delivery system is, I am not sure , but I use cult termies to great satisfaction to deliver the daemonette love.

I am sure bikes might be a better suited delivery method, but I have no experience with such.

I am however, not able to make any decent list below 1750 with the termie demon bomb. Thats why bikes might be better suited to lower cost games.

The "pure" Lustwing is a 1500 pt list - 36 models, in 6 squads of 6 (18 termies, 18 daemonettes). Though I'll grant you it's not quite as effective without the mounted daemonettes.

You can sub in 5 bikes & a squad of 6 mounted daemonettes at the same point level, with some tweaking of gear.

If you really, really wanted to try an Emperor's Children list at 1000...maybe one squad of Terminators, and a couple infiltrating CSM squads with sonic weapons?

Sounds like there is some real potential for some "Biker Babes In Zombie Town" style conversions there.  Perhaps replacing the biker torsos with sisters of battle torsos?  "Chicks Rule" emblazoned on the sides of bikes or on banners.  Looks like this could be a really fun army to build.

Threads should be like skirts: long enough to cover what's important but short enough to keep it interesting.

I'd hold off on starting a new Chaos army until the new codex comes out in a couple months.

Whatever you do may be made impossible or not work any more.

I would also suggest holding off...

That said, I have seen bikes used to great effect in delivering Daemons into the fight. With their Turbo Boost, they're especially easy to use. I've never played it, but I've been on the receiving end, and if Blood Angels weren't so broken, it'd have been all over when the Bloodletters started coming out of nowhere. Same would go for Daemonettes.

Well, as I said earlier, this is pretty immediate project. If it were for me, I'd hold of, but I want to strike while the iron is hot. My girlfriend is currently pretty keen on the idea, and I have time during the summer (I'm a law student, and summer classes are slightly less intense than fall classes). The chaos codex is what, six months off? that's plenty of time to paint and play a bit before the new 'dex drops. If the army becomes unusuable, than I strip some of the daemonettes and use them for another army.

I'm increasingly sold on bikes, mostly because the current chaos termies are so awful. A chosen bike squad, while expensive, can become rock hard with daemon armor all around and turboboost.

It shouldn't be too hard to get the bikes where they need to go to deliver Daemons. That's why the Daemonbomb is so popular. You can go 24" with Turbo Boost. You can plop down a template, the Daemons come out, move, assault. That gives you a ton of range, and you can generally hide behind cover and drop them.

One other thing: don't forget that you can put two lieutenants on bikes with personal icons. All they need is a lightning claw and daemonic aura to make them more than just a delivery system. You can also give them melta or plasma on the bike just to be mean.

Dakka on World of Warcraft:

MANNAHNIN: I know two guys who have had to quit the game cold turkey because the time investment required by it caused problems with their family life.

My favorite delivery method is a couple (2 or 3) Infiltrating summon squads. Do two close-combat marine squads, and then a lord with chosen. I would do more, but you need some guns, too. If you're doing 1000 points, I would suggest 1 CC squad of Marines and the HQ squad. These allow you to summon your daemons fairly close, and because they can assault when they get into play, you can count on some early action with your Slaaneshi daemons of death. If you want to do a Keeper of Secrets, then go with an infiltrating Chosen squad with an AC with Daemon chains to save points on a lord.

Catch me if you can.
