http://www.privateerpress.com/FAQ/hordes/

For those who have not seen, Privateer Press has posted the Official HORDES FAQ and Errata in the Forums on their website!  This is a living document and is still being checked for typos and the like.

There are some big changes to some rules, such as Seraph's Slipstream and Krueger's Lightning Tendrils. There are also some new rules which were apparently accidentally left out of the original printings, such as the Pyre Troll's Flame and the Lord of the Feast's Fearless.

What? Wait 15 months after the product's been released to provide a FAQ?

GW: "Been there, done that."

I'm still on the fence if changing rules in a FAQ is a good thing or not. Adding in rules that were left out would definitely be a good thing!

I think he means by making it like a powergaming combo card gaming crack is how you do it.

It's funny when I listen to arguments about who's version of what clarification from the board is correct. I don't miss those old GW days, and it makes my head hurt when playing Warmachine.

And yes, I do like the game. It just annoys me.

Yeah, I'd rather have a ton of ambiguity so that I can argue with my opponents about what I think should happen and then either get into a shouting match or randomly determine what's going to happen too.

Fun.

I admit that the changes always seem a little too extensive but I usualy keep up to date on them so it's not too bad.

I have nothing useful to add.

Yea, I'm not sure what I think about this ginormous FAQ. I mean, it's nice that they are clearing up misprints and such, but how does one "accidentally" leave out a core rule like the Pyre Troll's Flame for a year? Seems pretty sketch to me.

I'm sure they just decided to add it recently since no one really ever uses the Pyre troll. And I'm glad they nerfed Slipstream. For 1 fury, that animus was way too cheap for what it did. While it's nice they balance out the units like this on a regular basis through the FAQ, it's a lot of info for a new player to take in.

Not directed at Ozy, but come on, how many silly rules questions come up because of the ambiguity of their writing?  How many questions have been posted here, or other places on the net, waiting to be answered?  Some of these questions are not game breaking, though some can have a huge impact on the game as a whole (Eldar vs Eldar and the Farseer gear for example?  I don't recall the names)  An attempt at a fix would be better, at least to me, then to simply shun everyone and ignore the questions.

Distribution of these answers is a problem?  Put the PDF on the website.  Shoot emails to those on your email list when they're updated/put up...I'm already getting the Webway Newsletter from them, so I know they can email me.  Send copies to your stores whenever they are sent stock or bits orders.  Send them to the FLGS stores that still put up with your business practices with their orders.  White Dwarf...wow, might make it useful for a change, especially if they had a section each month that took the time to answer even 5 or 6 questions.  Hell, they could even go as far as having forums on their own website as well.

What about the casual gamer that doesn't go into a GW store or an FLGS to play, how will they know?  Really, I don't see them caring.  They play with friends.  If friends are having a problem with the rules, they work something out and have fixed it for next time.

I've gone through multiple FAQ's/changes for games such as Magic The Gathering or even online games like World of Warcraft.  An update can drastically change what the "uber" combo was.  Take a look, those games are still VERY alive and kicking.  A player base that knows you care about the game, trying to tweak it and get it to a balanced state will respect it.  They may gripe a bit that there super-ultimate-killer-dude-thing got hit with a nerf bat, but seriously, they should know it deserved it.

Oooh.  The rumoured "Dark Sentinel" once per turn becomes reality...!  Ouch.  I guess I'll need to rethink my strategy - since I was relying on Dark Sentinel exclusively to protect Vayl's ARM13, 13 hitpoint butt from infantry.

For those pulling the "lolz privateer press took 15 months to put out an faq..." card, remember that their rules forums are incredibly popular and often frequented by the makers of the game, and will come in and *officially* answer questions.

My comment was pointing out that GW also took way too long to put out a FAQ. It was a jab at both companies.

My biggest concern is the same as what happened with 3rd ed. By the end of it you needed printouts from a dozen different sources and/or 3-4 books in order to play the game. FAQ's are nice, but too many and too large and it gets too confusing.

Except....they didnt keep up. A living rule book is a good thing.

Thanks for posting the FAQ.

If and when kept up, but keeping up with rulings on the board is problematical. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Just pointing out that It's very likely that this Faq will be include in the new Hordes Book when it's release later this summer. Privateer is very good at trying to keep the stacks of printouts to a minimum, in the long run. Look at Prime Remix and Escalation for great examples.

I'm all for a good FAQ... and Hordes is currently my favorite game.

I would like to see some of these 'fixes' make it onto the stat cards. Like the Pyre Troll's "new" ability, the 2 extra points of Body on the Axer, and some of the revised wording on feats, etc... I think throwing in some revised cards with an issue of NQ would be nice, but I'll settle for them releasing revised faction decks like they have with Warmachine.

They've said that when they release the faction decks, they'll have errata there.
