1766 in total, i am anting to get it to 1850.... i have been woundering what i should buy with the remaning point.

i have thought about giving vox's all around, with a master vox in the command squad.  that way i would be able to spread outside of my iron standard bubble.  but if i wanted to i could keep a squad or to witin the bubble to get the bonus

if i gave voxes all around, i coud buy thetroop squads (not comand platoon) and th fist squad all a plasma gunner.

i play tau so i am used to things needing a 4+ to hit.. an i like the extra range and punch of the auto cannon on the transports turrets.

ok... well tell me what yall are thinkin

Get iron discipline on your officers, always. Keeps those 1 man lascanon squads on the table.

The usual thing is to give every squad a plasma gun. What are you going to do if assaulters get close? Short of dedicated counter assault rapid fire plasma is all you got.

It looks like your plan is to park the chimeras with their rears to the table edge and use the longer range of the autocanons, ditto the lascannon squads in cover. What if there is a lot of terrain on the table? or Tau suits popping in/out behind cover? An IDF basilisk or some drop troop sentinels or storm troopers helps out there. Fopr drop troop sentinels vs. rear armor the autocannon or multilaser & HK is superior.

A hint - BWbits is selling predator autocannon barrel bits for $ 1 a pop on sale right now. I ordered 8.

Clear the battlefield and let me see

I agree with the Iron Discipline and the plasma guns. I'd go standard multilasers on the Chimeras personally, ST 6 vs ST 7 so it will still wound most targets on a 2+, but more shots means more opportunities to wound. Yes, you do lose some range and AP, but it's not going to matter against MEQ. Dropping one Leman Russ for a Bassie isn't a bad idea, gives you the ability to reach out and touch those hidden units. Another thought along those mines is a minimum Storm Trooper squad with Deep Strike. They're not Guard Infantry so are not required to take a Chimera under the Mech doctrine.

Re the voxes, bear in mind that neither the standard nor the Iron D will work over the vox link.

Once you add ID to your officers and plasma guns to each squad the list will be much stronger. Just lascannons alone will get overwhelmed by anything with decent amounts of troops.

I'm not too sold on the autocannon turrents. They are fewer shots than the multilasers and only a bit higher strength. I think you've got enough lascannons to deal with most any armor, so the only advantage of the autocannons I see would be against skimmers. While autocannons are better against skimmers they're not that much better than multilasers as the extra shot goes a long way. Personally I'd run tthe chimeras with hull heavy bolter, multilaser, and pintle heavy stubber. You get nine shots at 36" which isnt bad at all. They're just like weak pred destructors. I think that you'd be better served by the 9 shot chimeras much more so than the autocannon versions. Sure you lose a little range, but you should still be okay. If people really want to play the range game you've got all those lascannons and russes.

On the tanks, I dont know about three russes. You might want to change one to a demolisher for shorter ranger nastiness, esp against things like termies. The other option, as someone pointed out, would be to take a bassy to reach out and touch someone. THey're great against things that will give your pretty static list fits. Namely the aforementioned JSJ Tau or eldar bikes. It's hard to deal with sneaky things like that in a mech list as you cant take drop troops without buying them a ride.

Usually I'd advocate dropping hardened vet squads to solve problems like that, but in this case that's really not an option. If you must take some drop troops then stormies are the way to go. You'll want to take 5 stormies with 2 plasma guns and a sarge with a plasma pistol. Not as cheap as hardened vets (75 points) as I think the stormies will run you about 93 points, but I might be off.

Regardless, I'm not so sure about your sentinels. Correct me if I'm wrong, but armageddon pattern is the one with the lascannon. That makes your vehicle a huge target that goes down really easily. Sentinels are best when they arent seen as as much of a threat so they get some shooting before they get popped. You could try cheapo multilaser sents and drop them behind enemy lines for side shots on tanks. They'd be irritating and hopefully help provide some angles that you wont be able to get because you're quite static.

Voxes are a bad call. Really huge waste of points. Just stay close to your JO w/ HI, ID, and standard. If that doesnt keep you from running away not much else will.

To fill the points I'd add plasma guns everywhere and ID on the officers. I also like 4 plasma guns on your platoon HQ instead of a lascannon. You've already got tons of lascannons and some dense plasma could be really useful for counter charge. That much rapid firing plasma could be a nice way to add some weapon diversity and help out at close range, something you dont really have an answer for right now.

You could also save some points by dropping the sentinels down to the 45 point multilaser version and dropping them to get side armor. Or if you've got the points maybe drop two sentinels, take another hell hound and a 6 man squad of Rough Riders with hunting lances. Adds some counter charge with the rough riders and takes the fragile sentinels for another hellhound which can be brutal against some armies.
