No "text speak" on these forums please. No one appreciates reading garbled non-english half-sentences.

Thanks and good luck with your conversions. I'm partial to the Ork kit bitz when I do converting.

The New empire handgunners/swordsmen

They are FANTASTIC for any human conversion! Shave-off their details and you have a perfect sized dolly. With just a thin layer of GS you can add boots-tunics-armour.

With the addition of stuff from cadians (lasguns, ammo-pouches, grenades, etc) you have a completely customized, self-made Imperial Guard.

In particular heads seem to be a problem, as the empire-heads are not suiteble for a SiFi army, however you can use bretonnian-kettle helmets, or order extra heads from West Wind

Sorry about the letter and number in "text" speak, i will remember not to do that but i couldn't fit everything in the subject heading without it sounding awkward.  Looks like I will need to check out the ork stuff since I am not partial to playing their army, just wiping them out whenever possible.

this is a great suggestion for what i had in mind, but what is this West Wind you speak of?.....i have no talent for sculpting heads so this would be great.

I prefer the Empire militia for this, the new Empire troops usually have the left hands molded to the weapons making them very hard to convert.  I made an Inquisition themed IG force using them.

For the same reason I use Catachans rather than Cadians for my urban IG.

Here are some pics:

Dragon models 1/35 scale weapon packs were essential for the job.

I haven't picked up westwind heads yet but I can see them in my future.

Kid Kyoto:

I may have few posts, but trust me I have been hanging around -and ocassionally contributing- to these forums from waaaaaaaaaaaay-back. And I have been an admirerer of your work, since the first Dakka-Dakka boards. Very good work and very imaginative.

Anyway back to topic, concerning conversions.

Personaly I -passionately- HATE plastic crap/cat-achans. Proportions, all wrong, akward body positions, need I go on?

Plain militia on the other hand are excellent and I have used a lot of them for conversions for my Steel Legion and my Britanic Regiments. Imagine 50 conscripts, with kilt, great coat and geiters (from GS) and brettonian kettle-helmets, all made out of empire militia-men.

The -now discontinued- old plastic swordsmen were a bit small. But they did have an excellent command sprue!

Can`t really say why but I do prefer the new handgunners/swordsmen. Possibly because

1. They have better torsos.

2. The leg size is more standarized (as opposed to the varying size of the militia)

3. I prefer the leg stance, as it is more favorable for action posing.

The handbunners in partiqular are perfect for Steel Legion. Very few have chest armour (these models are set aside for later inclusion in my Vostorian army) and the ones with the plain shirt are perfect for steel legion. (just file down/off all the skull-bones-etc, model boots, lower half of tunic, add reversed-triangular buttons, add suspenders and WW2 helmet and the job is a good one).

For Steel Legion Storm Troopers I used militia legs and cadian torsos (trimed down the belt) and arms.

Allways adding, tubing, back packs and ammo packs

Concerning West Wind there few older posts about them, but you can try the site http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/
