Kid Kyoto:
I may have few posts, but trust me I have been hanging around -and ocassionally contributing- to these forums from waaaaaaaaaaaay-back. And I have been an admirerer of your work, since the first Dakka-Dakka boards. Very good work and very imaginative.
Anyway back to topic, concerning conversions.
Personaly I -passionately- HATE plastic crap/cat-achans. Proportions, all wrong, akward body positions, need I go on?
Plain militia on the other hand are excellent and I have used a lot of them for conversions for my Steel Legion and my Britanic Regiments. Imagine 50 conscripts, with kilt, great coat and geiters (from GS) and brettonian kettle-helmets, all made out of empire militia-men.
The -now discontinued- old plastic swordsmen were a bit small. But they did have an excellent command sprue!
Can`t really say why but I do prefer the new handgunners/swordsmen. Possibly because
1. They have better torsos.
2. The leg size is more standarized (as opposed to the varying size of the militia)
3. I prefer the leg stance, as it is more favorable for action posing.
The handbunners in partiqular are perfect for Steel Legion. Very few have chest armour (these models are set aside for later inclusion in my Vostorian army) and the ones with the plain shirt are perfect for steel legion. (just file down/off all the skull-bones-etc, model boots, lower half of tunic, add reversed-triangular buttons, add suspenders and WW2 helmet and the job is a good one).
For Steel Legion Storm Troopers I used militia legs and cadian torsos (trimed down the belt) and arms.
Allways adding, tubing, back packs and ammo packs
Concerning West Wind there few older posts about them, but you can try the site http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/
