So on tuesday i will be purchasing the battle box of tyranids. that comes with one carnifex and a bunch of other stuff. this post is mainly about the fex and the brood warriors .

I am asking all this cause i dont have a codex yet.

Carinfex.

    1. Can a carnifex have two venom cannons?
    2. what are some opinions on a all melee fex?
    3. what is the other gun that takes up two arm slots? it is not the venom cannon, it is pictured on the, actual carnifex box. it looks like a flame thrower of some sort.
    4. what is the gun that looks like an old school flint lock pistol?
    5. Is there a limit to how many points a Fex can have?
    6. Is it a good idea to balance your heavy support by having on3 melee fex and one shooting fex?

Warriors
    1. what is the deal with the wings, and do they come with them to add on or do i have to buy them seperetely?
    2. what is the deal with synapse? i see a whole lot of posts that talk about it and have no idea what is about.
    3.

Carny:
1. Yes, but the battlebox doesn't inlcude 2, and most players think it's not an effective combination anyway (venom cannon and barbed strangler is usually the preferred combination for a heavy fex)
2. great for scaring enemy troops away, but will have great trouble actually getting into combat, as any fex can only trundle around at 6" per turn, so most players think a fex with some shootiness is better value
3. barbed strangler
4. not sure which one you mean
5. no, but when all the add-ons cost more than another complete fex including weapons, you'd probably be better off getting that other fex
6. Most people balance some Heavy shooty fexes (venom cannon and barbed strangler) with some Elites with lighter anti-troop weapons

Warriors:
1. wings are not included - Forgeworld do some (expensive) or various conversions are possible
2. you need synapse to keep your dumb gaunts under control, otherwise they won't obey your commands properly

That's called the Deathspitter. BTW, technically the Fex can't have 2 Venom canons as taking 2 of the same weapon makes it twinlinked (and it's not worth paying another 35 points just to reroll missed VC shots)

I would recommend you take a look at my article about equipping your carnifexes before you start building any of them. You can find the article by clicking the 'articles' button at the top of the page. My article is on the second page of articles.

By far the most popular type of Carnifexes are the Gunfex (Venom Cannon and Barbed Strangler) and the Dakkafex (two TL Devourers) for a reason: They are really, really effective in almost all game situations. Other types of Carnifexes are only really useful in particular game situations.

Ok so i jjust fully read the article that Yakface put up i have decided that the Carnifex is a tank and will stay that way. I like the gun fex the most. so if i use tow of those that is only 326 points and that is two really good shooters. I can then use things like genestealers or Ravagers for the melee, now one last question....... what is the general thought on Lictors?

In all honesty, this thread is starting to look like it belongs in 40k:Tactics, not Modeling.

Best Carnifex advice I can give.... Do a search for a magnetized Carnifex (or magna-fex, or other permutations.) It is using small powerful magnets to make it easy to modify your fex as you like.

Also, you really need to get the Codex, it will give you information you need to make modeling decisions.

What type/ how many fexes you use probably shouldn't be your first decision, for it depends on the rest of your army. I recommend you get the codex, do some web reading, and figure out a 1850-2000 pt army you think you will eventually want.
Then post it and ask for critiques. Take the critiques you want to (not all of them), and redesign the army. Then figure out lower point versions 1500, 1000, 750, 400 (whatever), and build up to them.

Good Luck

Lictors: You get some heated discussions. Worthless, Only One Ever, Go Three or Not at All, and Don't Leave Home Without'em.

The tricky part about Lictors is that they *seem* amazingly awesome, so folks use them against the wrong targets. Then they get toasted...
I run one, it gives me a bit of 'pop' that I can put to threaten, or assist, or maybe take out a small squad. I am almost always glad I took it, except the game that I forgot to bring it in.

But running 2-3 can do great things against vehicles of most types. And they work great with assaulting gaunts. (When you get the codex, look up Feeder Tendrils)
