Of the all the ham-fisted, near-sighted douche-baggery, this really takes the cake!

I liked the conflict system. I liked being able to play big, well-run tournaments, and still attend the regular Games Day events.

When people denigrate White Dwarf, I understand, but see that's it's not really targeted at them.

When the complaining starts about the prices, I understand that that is the result of a publicly traded company trying to increase share value.

When people complain about the rules, I don't understand, because I enjoy the systems.

But now, for the first time, I am well, & truly pissed off at Games Workshop (Canada).

The conflict system was excellent, the events were well-run, there were many close locations, at the Q&A'a they organisers comment on how successful each event is, and I thought the calibre of play was beyond reproach.

This may be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

The conflicts were fantastic!  I've played in 6 of the last 7 Grand Tournaments and now I won't play in another.  I don't have the free time to play in enough rogue trader tournies to get the hall of heroes points I'd need to get a place.

I don't want to play in a little tournament in a store, I only get to play a few tournaments a year and I want to play the best.  I want to play painted armies (often beautiful) that push my abilities to the limit.  More often than not rogue trader tournies turn out to be a bunch of local boys with (sometimes, not always) painted armies, who are rarely up to conflict play standards.

I know there are exceptions, but that has been my experience more often than not.    Seriously GW, I'm your biggest fanboy, I buy everything and defend your actions when it seems everyone is against you.  But really, you've stuck your head a long way up your butt this time.

I'd wait and see what they do to replace them with. I personally didn't like how you could buy your way into the GT by going to a couple of Conflicts.

Astronomicon is a much better tournament in every way than the conflicts were, and maybe they will replace them or run more of them.

I also think the Conflict system was flawed by having 4 of them within a 4 hour circle of Toronto. Most of the GT was guys from Ontario. I'd have liked to play against the best in Canada, not just the richest gamers.

I don't want to get into a rant here, but this is truly astounding.  I'm not sure what kind of crack Cory has been smoking that he can in the same breath cancel the Conflict structure and say the tournament scene is strong enough we don't need them anymore.

Classic cop-out,  instead of investing time, energy and genuine interest in meeting the concerns, critiques and needs of the competitive gaming community they turn their back on us.  I have seen first hand the consistent dwindling numbers of enrolling players attending Conflict tournaments (and its not because there are great alternatives), so instead of improving the conflict delivery gw abolishes it all together.  Now there is nothing to complain about regarding Canadian Conflicts, by that virtue everyone must be happy then.

I guess Cory should change his sig to "you got burned."

Thanks GW.

Well said.  My thoughts exactly.
