Desert Hellstorm:

Orks vs. Tyranids Battle Report

Two guys from Blue Table Painting’s assembly department take it to the mat with their personal armies. They played Breakout (40K Rulebook p213), which is a furious showdown. Even at full bore, it takes four turns for the attacker to get off the board edge. The only way to get more speed is to charge and sweep, but that carries the danger of getting bogged down.

Some things start small, with a spark, but ignite into something much bigger. I was cutting hills out of hard styro in the terrain room a few weeks back when I decided to try cutting with a long razor rather than a hand saw. I cut only part way through and tried to snap the odd piece off, but it didn’t come off all the way. It left an unusual shelf-like formation. That led to making a small sandstone hill:

A few days later I went back to the terrain room just to see what I could accomplish in an hour. I ended up spending ten hours working on terrain. I ended up with two full sets of sandstone terrain.

I found the table covering in Wal Mart’s bedding department. I’ve found that twin-sized sheets are ideal for a 6x4 foot table.

It was a pity not to actually play a game on that table. I got Bill and Jordan from the Assembly department to do a battle report. This is my second attempt to do this with video and it turned out a lot smoother than the first one I did (Orks vs. Germans 40K). So without further ado, here you are:

Part 02- The Terrain YouTube - Blue Table Painting Orks v Tyranids 02- The Terrain

I hope you enjoyed this. I would very much like to hear suggestion for improvement or things you’d like to see more of.

Fantastic battle report, you guys!

Great seeing faces behind the game and I love the tutorials on the scenery creation.

Keep it up!

Fantastic indeed...especially because your armies were cool. The Tyranid army is similar to mine and the ork army was also nice (never seen orks in action).

I missed some overview, though. Stuff happened off cam and I had difficulties to puzzle it together while I saw it. Maybe a tactical sketch (aka map) would be helpful. Other than that: Thumbs up!

Nicely done. I enjoy the video format, and for a first time (that I've seen it done) it was well presented and pretty easy to follow.

I would've liked to see it broken up by phase, and stronger lighting would really help. Future batreps done in this style should keep these two things in mind. Overall, this method could use some refining, but it could certainly have been worse. Nicely done!

Ba-zziiing!

Wonderfully done! The armies were great to look at,and you managed to get in more of the actual game than in that previous Orks vs Germans game. Keep em coming!

Very entertaining! Thanks for putting this together.
I was surprised the Tyranid player wasn't able to gang-rush his way off the table.

I like the format. The strategy discussion before hand (with opposing players out of the room) was a nice touch.
The lighting is a little dark. It's too bad we can't linger more over what look like well-crafted armies. But this might be a limitation of the medium (YouTube). Either way, it's great to see the action (semi-) live. Please do put more of these together.

Good report..... need to focus more on the "key plays" of the game, I REALLY wanted to see how the Nobs took care of the tyrant, getting cut off was really disappointing :-).

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.
