Subject: Which Codex will be legal?

Which Chaos codex will be legal for the Baltimore GT? If they release the new codex when they say then it will be legal just in time for the GT. How will anyone who wishes to play Chaos be able to make a competive list? I think they should let the current codex be legal for the last event of the year. What do you guys think?

My sympathy for Chaos players doesn't run very deep to begin with so I think if the new codex is out, you have to use that codex. But perhaps the GT organizers will allow the previous one. I agree with Hellfury too. This thread should be moved.

The new codex is of course going to prevent the popular Iron Warriors 9 oblit/4 defiler list from functioning, and that list sees a lot of tournament play, so I would assume they will mandate that the old codex rules apply for the tournament if the release of the new codex is two or less weeks within the the tournament's date... *edit* because after all, about two weeks is how long it takes you to start redoing your whole chaos army and then come to the inevitable conclusion that you hate your life and suddenly find yourself considering buying globs of mageknight/heroclix figures to represent the foul forces of chaos after spending many millennia in the warp...

If the codex is released in September as the rumors say (and I believe there was some release schedules out that showed that as true), then that's 2 months or so away from the Baltimore GT. Hrmm, maybe I should bring my Loyalists or Necrons with to the GT after all.....

IIRC, the old rule was that for a month after a codex was released in general release (not in the army box), a player could use either codex. Once the month ends, though, you have to use the newest rules.
Interesting side effect of restricting release info: players not knowing what will be legal for tournaments they've already bought tickets for.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias |
