PE finished as both best general and #30 in Las Vegas with his Eldar army. My son and I have painted a bunch of Eldar, I wondered what was in PE's list, and whether it was the list, or some horrible incident which dropped his sportsmanship so low.... ( We have 1 fire prism, 2 Falcons, 5 Ranger/pathfinder squads, 1 banshee squad, 1 scorpion squad, 1 avatar, a bunch of Vypers, 2 swooping hawk squads, one dragon squad, a dark repear squad, several guardian+Bright Lance squads, two waveserpents). Thanks!

I wasn't there, but I'm sure it was something like this:

Yuriel (sp?)
Eldrad

3-4 five-man dire avenger squads in Wave Serpents

3 falcons

There might be a fire dragons squad in serpent in there

This is very standard vp denial and since the GT's are all VP's (escalating no less) you have to win by lots of vp's.  Deny them to your opponent and you won't have to kill much to get a big vp differential.  You also need to fight and claw for every terrain advantage for you and every disadvantage for your opponent.  Here is an example.

In the 2006 Adepticon Gladiator Pete was playing footslogging guard against Charlie Nichols Word Bearers.  The table had lots of Hirts Arts buildings all over it.  Both players set up and began to play.  Charlie put a chaos marine squad in a building.  Pete shot at the unit and Charlie took some cover saves for the building.  Pete said Charlie would get no armor saves because they both did not agree before the game that the building was a building.  This was the most obvious building you can imagine and the Chaos Marines were deeply entrenched inside, but not in Pete's mind.  In Pete's mind there was no building because they both did not say it was a building before the game.  Well all of a sudden all those buildings scattered around the table were not buildings because they both did not say they were before the game.  I was running this event and as head judge I came over and said the building was a building and that's the end of it.  It didn't matter what I said and Pete browbeat the guy into going along with him.  Of course on turn 3 a horde of daemons got summoned into the Imperial Guard lines and if that didn't wipe Pete out it was his mistake of taking a single Grey Knight ally which allowed all of Charlies Daemons to have Sustained Assault which killed him.  I

Don't think that just the Best General's list is all you need to win a lot of games, sometimes you need to do things most of us wouldn't be able to sleep with ourselves for doing.  Don't look so much at his battle scores, but also look at his Sportsmanship score and ask yourself if you want to be friends with 3 people from Ohio and reviled by the rest of the country.

I had hoped that it was just a misunderstanding that dropped PE's score so low. Perhaps it wasn't...

I saw Ultramarines finish in the top 3. That is my son's and my first army. But, I think from another website that it was mentioned that it was a drop pod army, which we have never tried. Bit expensive.

Hand to hand Chaos marines or Blood Angels always seem to do well.

Your point about sportsmanship is very well made-my son and I mostly like to make friends and roll dice, but it is also sporting to give the enemy some competition as well.

Pete said Charlie would get no armor saves because they both did not agree before the game that the building was a building.  This was the most obvious building you can imagine and the Chaos Marines were deeply entrenched inside, but not in Pete's mind

Truly amazing, especially when you came by and pointed out the obvious, that it's a building. People like that really need to have their miniatures melted down, their books torn in half, dice crushed, and told to never game again. Just a personal opinion, mind you.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

According to someone who did play with him, it was

"3 Falcons, Star, SC & PL fully decked out

5 Wave Serpents, Star and SC with 5 DA each and a Yurial I think, Star and SC"

or something like it.

It's not really my place to say this, but the details of said player's conduct are kind of OT for this forum. Anyway, enough has been said on the thread linked above.
