I apologise if this has been said before, I did a brief searchy, but didn't find anything.

In a recent game, an opponent used Guide on a Falcon against me. A spectator said that it couldn't be done, I tohught that it could, and so did my opponent.

The confusion comes from the wording of guide:

"...one Eldar unit with a model within..."

Can Guide be used on a vehicle?

The argument was that Vehicles aren't units, but vehicles - as the rulebook makes distinctions between shooting at units, and shooting at vehicles, it seems that vehicles don't count as "units".

I wasn't sure, so I'm asking here.

Any help please?

You're right, he's wrong.

Page 8: "A unit will usually consist of several infantry models or small vehicles that fight as a group, but it can also be a single, very large and/or powerful model, such as a battle tank, a monstrous alien creature or a lone hero. In the rules that follow, all of these things are referred to as units."

(And in case your opponent, or another picky spectator, disputes that the Falcon is a unit 'with a model within 6"', page 6: "When you see the term 'model' used in the rules, it will apply to both vehicle and non-vehicle models." )

Thank you for clearing that up, and providing a reference.

It wasn't my opponent causing a problem, it was a spectator and an over-zealous Redshirt (and we all know what they are like!).

You're welcome. We don't have a GW store here, so I can happily say that no, I don't know what over-zealous redshirts are like (at least, not firsthand).

On another note, I sure miss being able to guide Falcons from the inside!

Remember, its your game. If you disagree with a redshirt, especially if you did not ask their opinion. Then politely play it the way you want to play it.

Good thread, I thought it was non-vehicles also.
(looks at falcons) ahh pretty pretty falcons...

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

A redshirt asserted that a Falcon wasn't a unit?

*shudder*

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

You know... not to go off topic but back in 2002-2003 I opened the GW store out here and was a Red Shirt for a few months...

I took the job as part time and I could kind of see the Red Shirtitis in some of the my co-workers but I must admit I never really had issues that became this stupid... in fact in my opinion I ran a tight ship.

Mostly because it was a part time job, my real job being with the Criminal Court out here.

I always found that the RedShirts were responsible for RESEARCHING the rules before running their mouths about personal opinions. That is how I rolled, if something came up it was researched and ruled on. I never kept a tally on right vs wrong and how I did... Maybe I should've.

But man the horror stories ya'll tell makes me sorry I still have a Red Shirt in my closet. I kept it as a souvenier.

Can you D.I.G. it?
