My assigned project is to build a Death Star like model for 40k Kill Team action.

The idea is to have the kill team reach the exhaust port and toss in grenades on a round globe space station.  It is a timed game as the Death Star fires its main gun every 2 rounds and the team will lose points each time this happens. Also, the brutes op force is in the way of the exhaust port.

So far we kicked around these ideas, please tell me your ideas.

1) velcrow to hold the minis on even upside down on the globe (fuzzy death star, hum no)

2) BEST- glue a nut under the mini base and have screw bolts sticking out of the globe (kinda cool looking we think)

3) your ideas

Sounds quite ambitious @_@

Any idea one the scale you would use? I imagine you intend to build this station quite big.

One of the egg-heads i am forced to work with has determined that the surface area of even a normal sized globe of the world is big enough for a kill team. So that will be the size. The one here in the office is a globe of the world about the size the one school kids have in a class room.

We considered magnets, but problem is we want players to have an easy time to convert kill teams to be able to play on this surface. It seems that most players can glue a nut underside the base, but a magnet with the correct polarity could be a problem. We are bringing this to a convention and want minimal complications/murphy factor.....help with ideas.....

A new day, a new time zone.

Magnets would seem to be your easiest choice. Make the surface of your sphere o' fear out of ferrous metal. Then it doesn't matter what polarity is making contact on the magnets glued to the model's base.

Yea, definitely make it out of metal, and order some rare earth magnets to glue to the bases. Cheap, and makes for handy storage and transfer as well (I use a case with a metal base to move my mini's around).

Magnets seem the best choice BUT, would not the mini slip and slide on a globe if almost upside down and such. and also, to build a whole sphere from metal is a ton more work than just painting over a world globe and that metal is not going to hold a magnet?

Thanks for the ideas. I just wonder if anyone has tried this before, it will be more fun if it works without a DOH! moment.

Hopefully it will work better than that time we tried to use real water as a river......

Real water as a river? That doesn't bode well with anything other than a real river. I'm sure you made a heck of a mess X3
