Here's the scenario;

It’s a 1750 competition game.  You have your army.  You know by the hoard of Guardsmen across the table, you know what army your opponent is playing.  The rule set is in the Beta range.  When it comes time to set-up you’re the only one to place any units on the board.  The mission type is a win by killing kind of game with no other objectives.  You know that you have at least 1 free turn of movement, Maybe 2 or more.  What’s your strategy? How do you brace yourself for the deepstrike?

Its fairly easy to deal with actually. What you do is simply pile as many of your guys into hard cover as possible in as little area as possible (preferably near a board corner) with your cheaper units on the outside. The cheep units will force them to take target priority checks to shoot at things that are really worth shooting at. Keeping a large portion of your army near the board edge will force your opponent to deep strike into a limited area that is on the outside of your "glob" of units and not too close to the board edges. The deep strike army will come in a little bit at a time, fire once and then face the combined fire power of you?re entire army. It won't last long. I've never found all deep striking armies to be very good. They end up having to fight your entire army with only half of theirs. In that fight, they lose.

Threads should be like skirts: long enough to cover what's important but short enough to keep it interesting.

True, with out a couple of improved comms, the all deep strikers don't stand a chance. All in all Phoenix gives very good advice. Placement of the army is key. All deep strike armies only really come into their own in objective based missions.
