<st1:city w:st="on">Battle</st1:city> report for RTT played at <st1:state w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Madrid</st1:place></st1:state> this weekend. 1500 points.
The organization set some special rules for composition to try to make it more even for whatever army you may bring. The core of the rule it’s that you have to keep a ratio of 2-to-1 between troop choices and elite, fast, or heavy support choices. So to fill 3 heavy support options, you need to bring 6 troop choices. Or two fill 2 elites and 2 fast you need 4 troop choices…
As it turned out, most participants ignored those rules and took the associated penalty in composition scores. That fact put at a disadvantage those lists (like the one of mine) that were adapted to it.
My list was based on:
- Tigurius with command squad retinue on foot.
- A walking chappy joining an elite squad of veterans (tooled up for close combat) and then boarding a land raider crusader.
- A couple of squad of las-plas marines…
- A squad of sniper scouts
- A fusion heavy squad of marine bikes, including a fusion canon attack bike.
The missions where not the standard ones, and there were some other oddities, like the terrain setup, that was always exactly symmetrical between deployment zones…
1st game was a “recon mission” played just for victory points, against an all infantry, harlies and jetbikes eldars. Elite and fast choices had to be kept on reserve. My elites veterans made a “siesta” of it and only came from reserve on the last turn. Tiggy command squad was erased almost to a man by vibrocannons, and them Tigurius died from two wounds caused by dangerous terrain (one due to flight into it, and one due to moving out of it) and one perils of the warp wound. Results, half my army was erased by my opponent and I killed aprox a third of his army (including his farseer dying in turn one to a simple krak missile shot from the sniper scouts) It was marginal loss and lesson learned (not to deploy close to the dammed vibrocannons)
2nd game was a patrol mission with points scored for units in the enemy deployment zone. My opponent was using a leaned imperial guard army with 3 leman russ tanks, 3 sentinels in one squadron and a lot of lascannons batteries. I got first turn and run the crusader full of veteran and chappy forward (poping smoke) and also run tigurius forward into the cover closer to the centre of the map…. He put a pie plate over tigurius command squad that was only survived by tiggy himself, a pfist sarge and an apothecarius. The rest of the fire was against the LRC, which came out of it only losing the fusion cannon….That was the end of the battle. Massacre for me. Next turn the crusader unloaded the veterans into a platoon of 30 recruits….. (from that point on the veterans and chappy rolled their entire line only losing 1 battle brother in the process) Meanwhile, tiggy reached the center of the table a casted fear that make some units run. In addition the snipers downed all the sentinels using just the sniper rifles, the bikes danced to get rear shots a one of the LR, the second LR died to assault cannon rending fire from the crusader and the third LR died to the pfist sarge that acompained tiggy. I felt a little sorry for this guy, because he used to play another (not painted yet) army and didn´t know what to do with his army. His target selection was horrible, as was his deployment (he granted me a send turn charge with de veterans), but in addition he also suffered a lot of bad luck:
- tigurius and his retinue survived to a second pie plate thanks to a 5+ cover save..
- the snipers glancing and destroying sentinels was unusual
- turboboosting bikes making something like 10-12 invulnerable saves before reaching his line and the rear of the russ
3rd and final game was quarters, against and chaos army all on foot and all shooting. Siren Prince, 3 units of havocs, sporting a lot of lasscanons, tank hunter upgraded missile launchers and heavy bolters, 4 chaos marines squads (lassccanon & plasma) and a pair of obliterators. Normally he would out-shoot me from afar easily (8 lasscannons, 4 missile launchers and 4 heavy bolters against 2 lasccanons, 1 missile launcher and 4 sniper rifles), but this mission have night fight in effect till a d6 determined dawn (that came at the last turn) I pushed forward my deployment forcing him to huge the border of the table and then proceeded to compensate the difference of firepower with Tigurius using fury of the ancients…That put a couple of chaos space marines squad off the table. He sent forward the obliterators in chase of Tigurius and I responded sending in the crusader with its veterans and chappy to chase them. I succeeded but them dawned and all my vets, chappy a crusader where sitting ducks in front of all his cannons… Those losses were compensated by turboboosting the bikes in the last turn to deny him one of his quarters and as a plus the biked fusion killed another squad to below scoring status…result was a tie with something like 80 victory point at my favour. Funny things:
-Demon Prince hide the all game in cover and out of loss… opponent didn’t wanted to risk him because tigurius deny him of siren during the all game.
- Just one more wound in one of my tactical squad in his last turn of shooting and I wouldn’t score from that quarter. That last wound was saved by 6+ cover save against a lasscannon shot.
Results, 3rd overall. My first opponents was 1st overall and best general (he scored a marginal victory against me and then two massacres). Other players with better battle results than me were dumped to lower positions due to the composition score penalty. In addition I scored better than expected in paint (just above average, but better than expected nonetheless). I also, tied on best sports, so I could claim a very successful day and a really enjoyable one.
Hope you all have enjoyed the read.
