I have some eldar jetbikes and I wanted to add some LED lights to create an 'underglow' effect on them. For those of you who don't know what underglow is, or for people who want more of a visual explanation of my idea, this picture is the basic concept. Any ideas of what kind of lights I should use? Where could I find them? How much would it cost/how much time it would require? If anyone has any insight on something like this I am open ears. Thx

hello friend! from my experimenting in the past and observing others, I have found Radio Shack to be a good supplier of small LEDs, ranging from a quarter to a few bucks depending on size (the ones that cost around a buck are about half the size of a pea usually) if you have not already decided, I highly suggest networking the battery (those are available at Radio Shack too, I use hearing aid batteries, make sure you get matching voltages on the LED and the battery) in the model's base, it gives you a nice empty area to work with and makes it easier to replace the battery when it dies. to obtain a more diffused underglow effect, I suggest layering the LED with a clear flying base or part of one cut to a shape that fits, and maybe scrape it up a bit/coat it in a light ink wash to better diffuse the glow. you'll probably want to go with two LEDs per bike to spread out the glow the best as well, though there may be LEDs somewhere that are shaped like long cylinders. good luck with your project, I hope it works out beautifully! *edit* oh my, that link to jamsessionein's tutorial (which I just looked at myself for the first time) really has all the info you'll need! S'narthed *sp* by Malfred xD

Ah... Tuned and blinged jetbikes... Eldar- the new Johnny-boys of the 40K world. But would be a nice effect all the same.

I think the SMT LEDs I posted about a few days ago could probably be of help to you, and a couple people have already linked you that way. If you have any specific questions, just throw em in that thread and I shall endeavor to answer them.
