I'm of the opinion that the Land Raider Terminus is pure arse.  That being said, I'm thinking that a big honking turret-mounted lascannon is the way to go for a new Land Raider variant.  The problem is, which turret?  I like the turret on the Tamiya Leopard 2 A6 as it looks similar to the Predator turret and that'd do much to keep things visually asthetic.

I'm assuming some of you are familiar with Tamiya models (I'm not), so which scale would be best for this endeavor?  I haven't decided yet, but I'm thinking along the lines of mounting a massive lascannon (like a Volcano Cannon) or a Vanquisher in it so it'd have to be big enough to look like it could house that gun but not so big it would look stupid on the Land Raider itself.  Any advice?  Suggestions?

You're looking for 1/48 scale. 1/35 scale is verging on superheavy size. 1/48 is still too big (should be between 1/56-1/60 scales) but with 40ks sense of (dis)proportion, that should work fine.

I don't know if Tamiya makes one, but there are some cheapy 1/48 Leopard kits out there, usually motorized (or intended to be motorized).

I think he was talking about remote controlled kits which seem to be rather popular if Tamyia's web site is any indication. I'm going to have to take some time and visit my local hobby shop and check out some of the kits.  I really can't get a sense of the scale with number ratios.  I need to see the bits and eyeball it.

Not all remote control. There are a lot of 1/48 scale tanks out there that just include a little motor that hooks up to the tracks.

Yeah, what Insaniak said: they're set up to include a motor but they don't have any remote operating system.

Something else to bear in mind is that real life guns (i.e. those modeled on such kits) are going to be, ah, less dramatic than the guns in 40k; you're simply not going to have a leman-russ sized gun on a real tank. A 1/48 barrel is probably close to a lascannon barrel, but if you're expecting something more executioner/battle cannon sized, you're not going to find it until you get into 1/20 scale, probably.

Man, I love that model. It was a total blast to assemble. I had a Revell Leo Ein that made me super frowny faced, but it went totally upside down when I opened the box on the 2 A6.

[back on topic] I think the 1/35 barrel is a more accurate version of the Battle Cannon, or at least more accurate than the Cream Pie Launcher that comes with the Leman Russ kit. IMO, of course.

1/48 just seems too small for a lascannon to me.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Id the idea to use the sharp fronted turret as somewhere to set up an array of Razorback lascannon turret bits. Haveing a Leopard with three twin linked lascannon on the turret, plus two more lascannon (again from Preds) on the sides.
do you intent to put the Leopard turret on a Land Raider, or just use the Leopard?

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I think a lot of contemporary tank kits have turrets that are far too big to look like 40k tanks (which have really small, WW2 type turrets for some reason). That said, I have a few 1:35 Merkavas ready to build and convert, I think they'll make awesome heavy marine tanks.

I'm thinking about taking a Vanquisher cannon, converting it to a huge lascannon (to match the style of the Land Raider lascannons), sticking it into a Leopard turret and putting the turret + cannon onto a Land Raider.  I'll still take the Predator's lascannon turret and put it in the front weapon hardpoint on the Land Raider, but I'll only be taking two side sponsons.  Four sponsons just looks stupid.
