Here is the choices I am brainstorming.

1. The traditional Vostroyan red/gold...

2. A WW2 Russian look. Olive drab green clothes, black boots, gold armour, black hats, red trim on coats, winter based...

3. A WW2 Russian look. tan or mustard clothes, black boots, silver armour, black hats, red trim on coats, winter based...

4. A WW2 Russian look. Tan clothes, brown boots, olive drab green armour, black hats, winter based...

5. French Napoleonic look with blue jackets with red trim, white pants, white gloves, black hats, brown guns, silver armour with gold trim...think Waterloo French Guard....

6. arctic winter camo, mostly all white with brown boots and gold armour, snow based.....

any suggestions?

#4 would be really cool if well done.  I have been checking out Russian WW2 uniforms, and paint schemes via reading up for Flames of War.  Another thing you could consider is the various forces from the Red Revolution in Russia.  The Vos uniforms are sort of derived from that period if I am not mistaken.

I vote for #5, the color combination is very sweet and the idea is original.

I heart SYR 8766

For all your bravado, if the US Army decided to invade, Wisconsin is it?, in force supported by a heavy bombing campaign for the month before, weeks of shelling from battleships on Lake Superior, and a full tank thrust (crushing the cows beneath the treads), I don't think that your .22 is going to make much of a difference really... Agree with Whitescar, Napoleonic uniforms provide a lot of inspiration for Vostroyans.

Also consider other 19th century military costume as inspiration:

Russian uniforms of the Crimean War
Russian uniforms of the Napoleonic wars
Prussian  and French uniforms of the franco-prussian war

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

I agree with Xenite.

And Vallejo model color range has the perfect shades readily named and available for you.

Don't go Napoleonic! These guys are supposed to be russian-esque! Napolean would be spinning in his grave if russians were wearing French colors!

Other than that.. I like the WW2 colors.... Think Staligraad. Urban/winter.

Here is a command squad I did for a client back in April which actually won both people and judges vote in a painting competition.
I think the client snatched the original color scheme from the GW website, although we altered a few colors.

The rest of the army can be seen here.
