Say, I was wondering. Hirst Arts makes a bunch of really cool molds for making your own terrain. But do they have any competitors? Do any other companies make a similar product? Or am I stuck with Hirst Arts if I want that kind of thing?

Any information anyone can offer is greatly appreciated.

There's another company called Linka World. More for Model Railroaders, but is cheaper than Hirst Arts. Doesn't have nearly as cool a selection.

Linka is indeed good stuff (so I hear), but more oriented for 1/72 scale. It is even used for FoW terrain sometimes, so I am pretty sure it would be underscaled for Warhammer and WH40k. It may have use for basic brick walls and the like.

Wow - I thought I recognised the name Linka, so i went to the website, it is indeed the stuff i was using about 25 years ago for 1/72 wargaming. i even recognise some of the basic moulds that I used to have.

For basic walls and stuff the Linka Stuff would work fine. For anything bigger, the scale would be off.

Honestly, I'm mostly interested in terrain I can use for 54mm Inquisitor games. Unfortunately, it looks to me like the Linka stuff would be much too small.

In any case, thanks for the tip. Considering how popular Hirst stuff is, I'm surpirsed no one else has put out a copycat product. Especially with a more science fiction bent.

It'd be awful hard to compete with Bruce Hirst, honestly. He produces new product at a steady rate considering the work that goes into each mold, and not only is said product well-designed, it's also well made. I have molds that are approaching three years old that are in flawless shape. To me, $30 is not to much to pay for a mold when I'm going to make a tremendous amount of very high-quality terrain with it.

He's one of those rare honest businessmen.
