any ideas? my friend likes to play a lot of warriors with a lord who has the res orb, almost always has a group of destroyers and then has a big old monolith ready to come in turn 2.

Don't use Orks but my IG play Necrons often. I suggest try and get into CC as quickly as possible as majority of Necrons are poor and your strength. If he takes alot of destroyers try and shoot these first as with good BS and weapon will quickly thin your numbers. Shame you don't have some ordanance weapons? Try and ignore the monolith if possible and concertrate on moving towards the enemy.

Avoid taking loads of vehicles/tanks as all Necron weapons have potential to blow them up (happens all the time for me!)

--What? Wait for Codex?!??! The Orks out of the current Codex can still rock Necrons. Looted Basilisk/Leman Russ will blow wholes in his army...a PainBoss w/ Cyborks can do plenty of damage(40 attacks on a charge) as can Trukk Boyz and Da Vulchaz. You should be able to charge at the start of 2nd turn no matter what. How many points are you playing? I have fought Necrons plenty of time w/ Orks and do quite well against them. Only thing that hurts is when they take lots of Scarabs because they tend to tie up some of my units. What models do you have I can try and write up a list for you based on what you have....Orks are in no way weak and do quite well in non-tournament/cheesed out list.

You flatter me. But really, I'm just an ordinary guy. I put my pants on the same way anybody else does: I put a gun to the head of my manservant and bark Russian military commands at him until the poor blighter either figures it out or watches his brains exit his forehead.

The orks shouldn't really have a problem. I recommend burna boys with a mech and forcefield. Vulcha's unit and as many boyz as possible in as large groups as possible. Take advantage of the 4+ save they have due to choppas while it lasts and ignore the monolith. Or shoot some rokkits at it as that will produce a huge laugh when it dies.
