And as of now its even lower :- 269p and falling down 11p on the day. Its not a stock market thing because stocks in the same sector are holding up well in the current difficult climate. It must be specific to GW. There was an irrational peak in early August, but now the bubble's burst and its almost back down to the level it was at when they cancelled the dividend. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall at today's shareholder meeting!

Any idea on what caused the August peak? Was it Apocalypse news?

Between Apocalypse and Orks and High Elves, GW seems to have 3 popular products coming out before the end of the year. I'd expect to see a bump once Q4 earnings are reported.

Apocalypse actually is supposed to be a side feature and not anything they are relying on. It has a specialist game feel that everyone is excited about because of the "remember 2nd ed" effect.
The games are fun and I think a lot of people will play it, but only with other friends that they enjoy playing. And due to time only every once in a while.

Posted By Orlanth on 09/21/2007 1:28 PM It wont last, apocalypse is a paper tiger that will temporarily boost sales. Possible IF GW is stupid and doesnt keep up with releases for this set. 40K needs more releases for their armies as opposed to when their respective codex gets released. This way it is a constant source of income, and gives you a dual use for the models bought. One for the normal 40K game, and one for the datasheets to be used with apocalypse. If GW fails to continue to support it, then it will indeed fade. Judging by GW's past track record, I would say this is lilkely, but I have hope.... As far as the stocks go, I think this doesnt bode well that this happened the day of the shareholders meeting. Something dismal was discussed to cause people to drop the stocks like a hot potatoe. Sad. I wonder if it will get better once Kirby leaves next year. I wonder if it will be too late.

I think Apoc will fail due to lack of support. Most of the useful box sets are all limited releases and where like i would be tempted to by the 10 Leman Russ set I wouldn't buy 10 Leman Russes individually. Also the promotions are idiotic... who remember the little Battalion deal where you get that stupid sheet and have to buy and paint so much crap just so you could have what 10 dollar off of a certain item. My current favorite is get 5 dollars (oneday only) off of a Baneblade if you do the 90 dollar preorder for the Apocalypse stuff.
Hell, I wish i could buy a Warlord model instead of having to scratch build one or look to Forgeworld for some of those models... The main thing to kill it will be space issues IMO.

I am hearing that most of the so called releases are in fact conversions. There is no Chaos baneblade with pus cannon, that was a conversion. There is no Skullhamma for the same reason. Nor is there a Stompa. The only new kit is the Baneblade. People will find that the Apocalypse book is merely a vessel for using Forgeworld kits, and they are not a viable business model.
All the massed Russ boxsets will do is slant sales temporarily. Most players will abandon Apocalypse fairly quickly when they find it doesnt deliver. Take three Russ for their armies and dump seven on ebay. GW have actually cut prices substantially without any of the benefits of a price cut policy. Amazibng really, they have done what we most wanted, but in completely the wrong way and of no benefit to themselves.
Oh, and in the preview Apocalypse game I was at there were over thirty Imperial tanks of various types, inclusing two Banebladex and a formation of Vindicators. Plus some Defilers added in on one side. Yet it was the guy who turned up with three Fire Prisms and three Wave Serpents who cleaned house and took two of the three objectives on his own.
If (and it is an if) the staff are correct, Apocalypse rules only apply to Apocalypse. So the new prices and abilities that make the Baneblade and other vehicles viable do not translate back to 40k. If you want to use your new Baneblade you have to pay the 640(?) points and use the downgraded gun. Very few of the larger Forgeworld kits are intelligently priced - speaking at this moment of its in game points cost. This, if true, will further soil any benefit gained from the Apocalypse release hype.
Also Apocalypse opens old wounds, and hightlights them. GW is still going out of its way to stick the finger to Armorcast model owners (no Reaver, no Phantom) and gives a strong feeling that previous custom is not welcome. One would think that someone willing to buy an Armorcast Reaver (from eBay) was a dedicated hobbyist worth winning over for new sales. I met hobbyists who were too young to have been playing when Armorcast lost its contract notice this when we had the preview of the new rulebook. Many of GW's kick-in-teeth policies leave a bitter taste even for those who could not have been personally affected.
GW need a cash cow to match the Skull Pass release this time last year. As Apocalypse is likely to fail they may have to rely on a good Ork Codex at Christmas - I am actually quite optimistic here. Following the High Elf release- somewhat less enthusiastic if army book brainfart rumours are true; though the Dragon will sell a bundle.

Yup, that's what the Wave Serpent used to look like in Space Marine, back before there was a 40K version.
If you want dodgy looking models though, you can't go much further than the original Epic Thunderhawk...

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias |
