I'm working on a non-game modelling project and last night I tried to seal it up with some "Mr. Super Clear" brand matte sealer. Large swathes of the project had been painted with chaos black. When I brought it in, I was shocked to find streaky sections of it had turned grey/white. I'm not quite sure why this happened. I thought at first the sealer went on too thick at first and caked on too thick to be clear, but neighboring portions that were painted different colors only show minimal discoloration or none at all. That and the discoloration on the black seems to follow a brush-stroke pattern rather than a spray pattern. Anyone know what happened?!

I suspect that like in fingerprinting the vapor selectively deposited on certain surface shapes/chemistry. If it look betters when wet, you might try brushing it off and/or hand painting some sealer over it to smooth it out. Main lesson is go get some Testor's Dullcote and throw that other stuff out.

maybe the black was not totally dry. cause when paint dries , the solvents & other chemicals(depending on the paints make up) evaporate & your sealer prevented that plus humidity could also be a factor. just tak'in a S.W.A.G. @ it.I had something similar happen that actualy looked cool when spraying enamel paint over laquer primer. it had a neat texture on the armor plates & I have never been able to duplicate it.

Lots of so-called "Clear Matte" finishes are not clear at all, but frosty.
Sadly, you can usually only learn the hard way, by ruining several hours' work.

it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Most spraycan dullcoats, of all brands, do this from time to time. I hate the freakin things, and avoid them like the evil plague that they are.
I always give everything a coat of future first (Johnsons Kleer for the UK folks), then an airbrushed coat of thinned Gunze Matt Clear. I have never had a single issue with that technique.
