I play Imperial guard and I will defend myself in a Meatgrinder mission against Orcs and Tyranids...

I happen to have a valkyrie model, and I thing about using it in order to have one unit (stormtrooper squad in the flyer) away from the horde of tyranid and orcs for most of the game.

Is it a good idear?

Depends, will your friends let you use it? And if you use it just so that you have a unit they can't shoot at for most of the game, I'd say that it kind of defeats the point.

If it makes sense, then it's not RAW.

with the rules for flyers( including the range  penalty to shoot at them and only hitting them on 6s on the turn they arrive unless you have AA units etc..) it is with good reason they are special permission only use units.  you have to give your opponants at least some chance by being aware and prepaired to deal with them.

i've fought against the all flyer elysian list with 4 valks and 2 vultures and it wasn't pretty for me. its probably the hardest IG army to fight ever.

that aside, since you only have 1 and if your opponant agree's  to it, have fuin with it.
