Heh heh, as much as I would like to use the bust of David planter (plants go in his head!), I think I have found somehting relatively cheap and suitable.

That is an awesome idea, and I love the Augustus bust.  Maybe there's some way to even work his armor into the building structure...

I was wondering that too. I really want to find a bust like that, but with an olive leaf crown, which I would use as the base for the platform, but this will do.

Now if I can hollow it out and make heavy bolter positions in the eyes!!!

Have to throw an Imperial Eagle in there somewhere also.....

I am still going to give the local shops a once over to make sure there isn't anything here, otherwise I should be ordering that one.

I think it looks a little off, depending on the scale of the bust first sight of it would be "whats that guy doing with a lazer hat?"

Kinda reminds me of the architecture of "Batman Forever" and "Batman and Robin".

What I would recommend is building the platform with a center cyclical support and have statues around the perimeter.

IE.:

and have the towers on each side.

That is kind of what I am shooting for, an odd gothic ode to a hero, and defense laser. Something where the statue and gun are one. I would try and integrate the two together with more pipes and cables. Was actually thinking the bottom of the turret platform could be gold, making it look like part of a crown.

In a way, something very pompous that some planetary governor did in his own honour. Something overblown and gaudy!

I think you should commission a sculptor to make a life-size statue of yourself in carapace armor and mount the defense laser on the top of the head.  Yes it will be quite expensive, but totally worth it IMHO.  Of course a cheaper option would be to just wear it as a hat.

I think you should make the sculpture a little less clean when you build it. Like it is constructed similar to the Statue of Liberty but has takin a few blows in it's life span.

I would also add smaller (=][= scale models) on either side of the gun towers to really opulent it up a notch.

My suggestion,

1. Find bust of angry screaming bald man.
2. Stick lazer into mouth.
3. ????
4. Profit

A little tongue in cheek, but who knows? He might get ahead...

My original doodle was actually something like that. A head screaming, with Heavy bolter nests in the eyes and mouth. With the rest of the head being the defense laser.

The central thought is for it to be part of art and weapon mixed, so the central head figure is in. I like the statues though.

What would be really cool is if the statues supported the AA guns, somewhat like how atlas holds the earth type thing. Hmm, now I have to do more searching.....

I would suggest making the bust into a triumphal arch. That way it has the complete ass-kicking package: past, present, and future.
And there has got to be a Chuck Norris bust SOMEWHERE...

Maybe check and see if any Chronicles of Riddick stuff (toys etc.) might be suitable for the project.  They had lots of weird faces integrated into stuff.

Lord Marshal and Vaako figures would make perfect turret sculptures.

Also another Idea ripped from CoR is you can make the face an opanable door (see the film) that has the lazer inside.

I'll throw my 2 yuan in, I like the bust of Augustus, I like the Atlas holding up a gun idea. So how about put LEDs in the bust and make it your fusion power sphere (or whatever) and then have Atlas holding up the gun.

Very nice ideas, and I forgot Riddick had that imagery, that is pretty much what I am shooting for.

I like it. Need to see what I can get a hold of.

For another 'weird faces' inspiration, you may want to have a look at the anime 'Noein' as well. It has some really "interesting" sculptures which might be of interest in your Gunhead building.
