So after doing some soul searching I realized that my previous idea for a force which included 4 5-man plasma squads was a bit beardy, I've rethought my approach and came up with the following list. I'm not entirely sold on the Defiler or the Asp Champs, but I'm stuck on what to replace them with. This army is intended to slog forwards and beat things into submission up close and personal. (That and I don't have 3 rhinos to mount the chaos marines in)

      1 Terminator Champion @ [50] Pts

   9 Chaos Space Marines @ 225 Pts
Bolt Pistol; Close Combat Weapon; Bolter; Meltagun (x2); Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades
      1 Aspiring Champion @ [70] Pts
Plasma Pistol; Power Fist; Bolter; Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades

In my experience with the new dex, and with chos in general khorne berserkers do close combat the best. Noise marines are a good mix of doom siren and close combat, but often get owned by other units as agains MEQ's they hit on 4's and wound on 4's whereas berserkers hit on 3's against MEQ and on the first turn go first(I5 and S% from furious charge) and wound on 3's. Plus they get the extra attack. So for close combat berserkers really are point for point the best assault troop as far as I am concerned.

I am also fed up with demon weapons ... they are so fickle and hard to wound with at base strength 4. I am switching back to my slaaneshi steed lord with lightning claws. On average more kills than using the unreliable demon weapon.

I love oblits and think they are the best heavy option chaos has (until someday the rules for vehicles are revised and they actually get some survivability to go along with their point cost).

I think the new chaos has trouble being all assualt ... I go for a mix of shooty and assault ...

demon prince with lash of slaansh(and before anyone whines I have run emperors children for the last two dexes so stop with the cries of cheese). a slaaneshi lord on steed , 2 - 4 cult warrior squads, greater demon, squad of raptors, and oblits, and then round out the rest is what I do.

Good luck, playing with them and seeing what they do is the best teacher.
