Sneaky Kommando

Last weekend, I bounced over to my mate's flat and tried out the new ork codex. He is a tournament player and have collected several comptetive armies over the yeras. We also called in a couple of local gamers to put the new codex through a gaunlet of sorts. I dont have a turn by turn synopsis for you, but I do have the results and a few things I learned from the games to share with you. First is my army list in short.

Army List

HQ

2x warp heards

Elites

14 lootas

10 kommandos w/Sniks

Troops

3x 20 shootas with noob w/pk
2x slugga trukk squads noob w/pk

Fast

2x 3 squad of defftakopters w/ rokkits and one buzz saw

14 storm boys with zags

1850 points give or take

132 models

A couple of things I will try out next weekend:

1. the killakans with bs 3
2. looted wagons
3. tank bustas

Armies I played against: Not lists though, sry.

Godzilla nids--Major Vicortory
Vanilla Marines--Massacred
New Chaos Undivided--Major Vicotry
Necrons--Minor Loss
Mech Eldar--Tie

Onto the games:

Vs: Nids (Standard zilla list)

Too many klaws and too many models for him to shoot at. Here is a basic run down of the game. Turn one charge in with by kopters to tie up much of his shooting. Turn two charge with the trukks boys and kommandos who came in from his board edge. Turn 3 the shootas got there with 3x waghhs thanks to the warpheads. When the storm boys showed up on turn 4, they were there pretty much just to mop things up. Lost around 80 models but cleared him from the board. Lootas were terrible. Got one turn of mediocre shooting in, than failed their morale check to shooting and ran off the board. I was really surprised at how fast and mobile the ork army was. I out positioned and out manuvered the nids with relative ease.

Vs: Space Marines (2x whirlwinds, 2x speeders squads with 2x speeders each flamer/melta, 3x razor backs w/ cc marines, 3x marine squads with lasc/plas, 2x libby, dev squad)

He went first and leveled the lootas, who of course ran away (A theme of sorts for the games to come). Thanks to the libbies, warpheads were pretty much useless throughout. I also frazzled my own units 2x. Hurrah!! Marine speeders went down to concentrated rockitt fire (they killed more than their share claming an entire trukk squad and around 20 addition boys). The marine player did a good job of limiting my mobility. His list is really well rounded and although it may look like its catered to deal with orks, it is the exact list he won a local tourney with, where there were no orks (Although I'm pretty sure those speeders has ass. cannons instead of flamers in the tourney )

Vs: New Chaos List

It was a really forgettable game. He was assault oriented with a coupld of squads of berserkers, a korne lord with bloodfeeder, 2x defilers, the fleeting kind with 4x ccs, and a bunch of other things that didnt do much. His defilers both went down by turn 2, after that, the game was pretty much over. With nothing shooting at them, the lootas earned back their points first time all weekend. He did get in CC with his khorne lord. However, he rolled a bunch of 1s for his blood feeder which negated him in combat. Warpheads took down one of the defilers with zapp power, other one went down to a hail of fire from the 2x deffkopter squads.

More to come later.

One major question for you. How much of your victories would you attribute to your opponents not really knowing what your units can do? I know one of the bigest problems that players tend to have when facing "new" armies is that they are just not aware of what the "new" army can do and thus make poor choices when prioritizing what to kill. Do you believe you would do just as well against each of these armies if you were to play them again with identical lists for both players?
