This is a brief report but I just wanted to share

My group the Green Dragons played our first Apocalypse game this past weekend. We had 10 guys in a 31,000 pt game. Imperials & Eldar vs Chaos and Tau, about 15,500 per side.

here are some pics that one of the guys took

The imperial side consisted of guard, sisters, black templars and 2 eldar craftworlds, including 3 baneblades, a revenant and a phantom titan (!). Chaos had a lot of marines, a baneblade-esque missile tank VDR, and a Tau flyer (baracuda?)

The battlefield was in a T shape with 2 separate big tables, connected by 2 bridges. Each bridge was an objective, and there were 3 other objectives on each table. The smaller table was 4x8, the big one was 4x14, the bridges connecting them were about 1x3 each. I was on the smaller table teamed with and Eldar force against some Khorne marines and the Tau (Nerf Markerlights), so that's what this report will focus on

The game began with the Imperial side defending, as the forces of chaos marched on our positions. Somehow, there was very little carnage on either side with most people missing or shots just not doing the damage they should have. a great shot from a bright lance managed to immobolize the chaos land raider right at their table edge. The troops inside had a long walk ahead of them. My baneblade caught a hammerhead squadron in it's sites and fired on the command vehicle, only to have it be slightly out of range. The tau fought back by placing 4 markerlights on it, but only managed to shake up the driver and a gunner.

The second turn is when the real fun began, with reinforcements arriving all over the place. My guardsmen were all drop troops and i had them popping in at every empty space I could find. The eldar skimmers advanced and to add insult to injury, completely destroyed the land raider, which caught several marines and a stray wriathguard in the blast. Alpha Platoon jumped in beside one of the objectives and turned their flashlights on a group of fire warriors sitting inside. The entire platoon opened fire, killing them all. 5 Grey Knights dropped in as well, shooting up some chaos marines as they landed. Plasmagun Veterans also jumped in, right on yop of the landing pad objective that was clamed by a chaos sorcerer, who died a white hot flaming plasma death. The enemy side took some heavy losses. But on the Chaos turn, they all had their revenge. My platoon was wiped out completely, nurgle marines didn't like losing their sorcerer friend and killed all the vets, Both of my Hellhounds blew up and my russ's gunner was shaken. The tau decided it was time to drop in a whole mess of crisis suits right on top of one of the objectives. A huge clump of metal all squished together made my template gunners salivate.

Turn 3 was just as bloody as the previous turn, my eldar teammate called in an orbital strike on top of the new crisis suits, utterly destroying all but 5. My baneblade cannon was finally back online, and it hit them again leaving 3 suits and 2 drones. stormtroopers dropped in and opened fire, but did little damage (damn that feel no pain thing..). Veterans with Meltaguns dropped in right behind a hammerhead squadron and blew away the lead tank, and blew the raingun off another, then were cut down by Fire Warriors, but their purpose was served. Markerlights were glowing everywhere and most of my other tanks were shot up, but only my russ was destroyed. Chaos continued to advance and charged my inquisitor and his retinue who were taking cover in a nearby crater. The following turn the grey knights charged in to help and wipe them out. Chaos also dropped in 3 units of terminators right in the center of the bridges, 1 however missed the mark and fell over the edge. They took a lot of firepower to bring down, but in the end, chaos would not hold the bridges!

At the end of the game, most infantry units were wiped out to the point of not being able to capture an objective. The Eldar falcon flew as fast as it could to the landing pad objective, only to be painted up with about 500 markerlights and blown out of the sky. At the end of the 4th and final turn, Chaos had controlled

The following turn was mostly the same, with each side's turn it seemed like they were turning the tide in their favor, only to lose most of what they gained on the enemy team's turn. In the end, chaos had 4 objectives and we had just the 2 bridges.

The chaos victory will be short lived, a rematch is already in the works...

Brutal

Nice write-up Necros, will have to check the pics when I'm home and PB isn't blocked. Sounds like a fun game, and I'm guessing APOC is a lot more entertaining / messy when each side isn't packing a disruptor

Speaking of which, what assets did you all take?

I don't remember all of the assets but I know I picked the AA guns to make their big flyer come in a turn later, and the other guy next to me had the orbital bombardment. Someone else on my side had Careful planning. I wanted to take ambush because I knew they'd be doing a flank march, but no one took it and they did.. but luckily they didn't have much to flank march at the time or at least didn't use it as bad as it could have been.. we also did the assets as a per player thing instead of per army, so like I was the only one that could do the AA guns, the chaos player was the only one who could flank march, etc. There was a vortex grenade but I'm not sure what it did, it was on the other table

It was a lot of fun but also real exausting. We met up around 2, didn't really get the game started till almost 3:30, and called it quits around 11:30. The last turn was under an hour though for both sides.. I think what slows it down is too many reserves. We tried to set it up so that it was kind of like playing a bunch of 2000 pt games where you're pretty much just playing the guy across from you, instead of trying to do stuff all over the battlefield. But we still made sure everyone was done before moving to a new phase or turn

oh yeah, both sides ended up picking that asset that makes it so you can't talk to each other when you set up. That was fun

And yeah that clown army is awesome. He's got some pics of his army here on WIP.

Folks are talking about turning this game into a campaign of sorts, but the fun part is most people will be playing different sides every time. When we play again i will probably use my new Chaos stuff, another guy that was chaos is talking about using his space wolves instead. Most of us have 2 or 3 different armies to choose from, so the teams could be completely different next time
