sorry for no pics, but i dont have a digi so you can understand why
i played:

we rolled for mission, seek and destroy it is!!
terrain was mild, 6 pieces total for the board, 3 on each side is what we ended with. he placed most of his models on one side of the board, except his broadsides, those where on the other side. I was a lot more spread out, a falcon on either side for a pincer style set up. lord in the middle, spiders hiding for turn one, and the bikes set up across from the majority of his tanks.
i got first turn.
1a. farseer puts fortune and guide on the warlocks. falcons advance forward. lord moves to the left to get better sight on some tanks. bikes and avengers advance foward also. spider stay hidden.
- first shooting phase i kill a devilfish, and 3 firewarriors, but they pass their pinning check :( also 2 stealth members fall to the warlocks. and i stun a hammerhead with my falcon.
1b. he unloads his other fire warriors, after the fish moved a little over 6". all the suits move foward, the unstunned hammerhead moves to the right, and the pirahnas move 12" towards my falcons. oh and the stelath move a little away form my bikes, but still close enough to use the fusion gun.
-the missle pod xv8's blew up a falcon, and 3 harles with it and it was the first dice roll!! double 6"s!!! also the other falcon was immobilised by the broadsides, also on the first try, double 5's!! everything else but the pirahnas fired at my warlock\farseer bike squad and killed all five, leaving the seer by himself. (they saved over 25 times!) the pirahnas didnt do much, but did stun the semi-alive falcon and he ended his turn by moving his suits as far back as he thought he would need.
2a.warpspiders come out of hiding, harles jump out of the immobilised falcon, and my avengers move closer to his squad of suits\firewarriors. lord stays put, and ends up failing his sight check and goes stupid for a turn. farseer casts fortune\guide on himself and moves closer to the killed falcon\spiders.
-between 2 squads of dire avengers, i kill 12 fire warriors and lay 3 wounds on the
hq squad(the drones and another on a guy). my lord was dumb...and the 3rd squad of avengers just fleeted towards his broadsides. harles prepare an assualt on the pirahna by fleeting to the side armor. the spiders killed off all but 2 of the remainder firewarriors, while my farseer killed his pirahana and a gun drone in the crash.
-oh and of course he didnt tell me this, but my harle's attacked his pirahna but it had flechet dischargers on it and that took out 3 of my 6 harles, and didnt even kill it! They did blow the fusion gun off, which means its no longer effective, but I didnt get the
vps for it
the dire avengers that fleeted were a few inches short of assualting the broadsides. warpspiders jumped back a few inches, and the farseer followed behind them.
2b. this was a good turn for him, he killed all but the exarch of the spiders with his missle pod xv-8's and his hammerhead. the other hammerhead missed the large blast rail shot, but still took a few avengers out with
sms. the pirahnas didnt do much, but the gun drones on the one left killed 2 avenegers! the broadsides took aim at my downed falcon, but missed 2 shots and didnt even glance on his one that did hit. the leader xv-8 squad jumped out of hiding to face off my avenger squad very close to them, and with the aid of the remaining stealth members ended up finishing a squad off.
-his assault moves didnt really hide his xv-8s that well, but did give him some breathing room.
3a. now my troops are looking pretty low, but I know I can still get this if I plan it out well. My lord moves forward, with a hammerhead in sight. The harles that were pinned now move towards his stealth members, and the other squad moved towards his broadsides. The remaining 2 squads of avengers move closer to the leader xv-8 squad, while the warpspider exarch, after passing his LMS check plugs on to get revenge on a few missile pod xv-8s. the farseer in his abundant wisdom kills himself with a failed save against perils of the warp (
btw the 3rd time this year that has happened).
- the lord misses with the missile launcher and doesnt even glance with the lance. My immobilized falcon takes aim at the broadsides, kills 2 outright and the last one falls of the board. Everything else fleets towards their targets, with the harles both getting massive fleets of 1 and 3. Although both squads of avengers fleet towards the leader xv-8 squad, only one squad will be in range to assault. The remaining warpspider exarch tried to shoot the missile pod xv-8s but failed his
ld check and couldnt hurt the broadside he was next to.
- The squad closest to his leader xv-8 squad charged through difficult terrain, but was only able to have about half be in range for melee. Despite this they do their job, laying 3 wounds to the xv-8 squad, causing them to fall back clear off the board. Both harle squads fall well short of assaulting anything, and again in a daring show of manliness, the waprspider exarch rolls double 6s to kill himself in the warp in his assault move.
3b. now with 2 stealth members alive, 3 suits and 3 tanks, he has to try and finish me off this turn, before I can kill his tanks and claim this game. All 3 tanks attempt a tank shock to make my avengers that took out his
hq squad to make them start falling back, but they pass all the tests. His suits move to shoot at my lord, while the remaining few stealth try and take out my harles that were going after them.
- the avenger squad that passed those tank shock tests were taken out by various
sms and burst cannon fire, while the missile pod squad lays 2 wounds to my lord, the stealth members only manage one hit on my harles, but take on out, leaving me 2 left! Also with the railgun fire from the hammer heads he manages to stun my falcon that is still alive, which really pissed him off because he rolled a 5 and a 1 on the penetrate table. Gotta love holo fields!
- He did try and assault my harles with his stealth members, but surprisingly enough they didnt kill the stealth team. It was a draw, but I chose to hit and run with my harles to get a charge bonus next turn.
4a. well my dire avenger squad that was still alive really didnt have much to do, so they tried to move behind a hammerhead near by, as well as my remainder 2 harles on that side of the board. The other squad moves back towards the stealth to finish them off, while my lord stays put. (Bad choice)
-lord stuns a hammerhead and thats it. Avengers and harles on one side go after the back armor on a hammerhead, while the other harles shoot, but dont wound the stealth members.
-in assault the harles utterly slay the stealth members and take consolidation on the falcon wreckage to receive a cover save. The other harle squad tries to hurt a hammerhead, but no glances result.
4b. we both decided that the game could end this turn, if he can kill enough stuff. Again, with the 2 tanks that can move he tank shocks the last squad of avengers and finally forces them to fall back, ending their importance in this game(he parked his hammerhead next to them, keeping them falling back
) the last 2 firewarriors that havent been doing anything lately lay the last wound on my lord taking him down . also the tanks that are in range, take out the harles by the avengers with
sms and burst cannon fire.
- so now I have no way of killing his tanks, and have a stunned, immobilized falcon and 2 harlequins. We pretty much call it here, but allow one more turn for funs sake.
5a. we really dont go the whole turn, but I wanted to see what my last 2 harlequins would do to his missile pod xv-8s that are in range to assault. With 8 attacks, I get 5 rends!!! Man that would have been nice earlier. But that kills of all but one of his missile pod xv-8s and brings him down to 1 wound.
So we end the game, with my solitary harlequin, to his 2 hammerheads untouched, a devilfish untouched and a weaponless piranha that hid for the last 3 turns. Very clear victory for the tau empire! And a good lesson for me, dont put most of your tank popping power in one basket, especially one that draws that much heat.
And this is my second battle report ever, sorry if it seems a little weird, but I have writing this at work over the last 2 days.
