I plan on playing in a 2000 point tournament in February. I have two SM lists I'm throwing around. Between the two of them I account for pretty much every model I have except for a LRC, 10 Assault Marines, and a few land speeder tornados. Which of these two lists do you think would be the most competitive? Should I change my whole approach?

List A, Gun Line

Heed the Wisdom of the Ancients, Honor Your Wargear

Troops
5, 6 man Las/Plas squads

Elites
Dreadnought, Lascannon/Missile Launcher, Ven TH
Dreadnought, Lascannon/Missile Launcher, Ven TH
Dev Squad, 8 Marines, 4 Missile Launcher, TH

Heavy
Predator Annihilator, Lascannon Sponsons, SL
Vindicator, SL, POTMS
Dev Squad, 8 Marines, 4 Heavy Bolters

HQ
Epistolary, Fury of the Ancients
DWKT
7 DWKT Marines, 2 HB,
Captain with Power Weapon, 5x Special Ammo

I was bringing the Librarian primarily for his hood.

List B, Drop Pod
Cleanse and Purify

Troops
2 8 Man Plasma/Plasma squads with Power Fists and Drop Pods
2 8 Man Melta/Melta squads with Power Fists and Drop Pods

Elites
2 Dreadnoughts with Heavy Flamers and Drop Pod
1 Dreadnought with Heavy Flamer and Drop Pod Venerable, TH

HQ
Terminator Epistolary, Fear of the Darkness
4 man Term Command Squad, 2 Assault Cannons, TH, Drop Pod

DWKT 7 Marines, 1 Librarian, FotD, Heavy Boltersx2, Special Ammo, Drop Pod

If I had to choose between the two lists, I would play list A. IMO, both lists will have difficulty securing objectives, but I would default to the list with more marines and firepower, which list A has. I have never played with nor against a drop pod army, but I have played with similar gunline lists with enough success to not change my style. I would also like to see those tornadoes in both lists in place of those DW marines.

Gunline has my vote.

War is not your recreation. It is the reason for your existence. Prepare for it well.

Give me a hundred Space Marines. Or failing that, give me a thousand other troops.

Thanks for the advice. Incidently my army is an Imperial Fists army. Although much to my ire my friend only calls them Lemon Marines. I've dropped the DWKT and added 3 Land Speeder Tornados. I plan on bringing Assault Cannons and Heavy Bolter variety.

I use to only play drop pod marines, but when I converted my army to fists I tried a gun line. I was really surprised at just how well this army did.
