Following up, this was another fun tank, one of the first models I tried airbrush weathering on. I think it turned out well, but I didn't really get anything out of it I couldn't have gotten with traditional methods.

I'm assuming you highlighted with the silver and not some kind of crazy blocking scheme?

Did you paint or drybrush the plasmaguns?

Looks great to me. I like how you didn't cover the whole thing in spikes and skulls. Sometimes less really is more.

Today I didn't even have to use my hot-shot las; I gotta say it was a good day.

I agree. It looks like the conversion to Chaos is a multi-tiered thing, and they are just at the beginning of a glorious new life...maybe?

It just so happens that I can shed a little light on this subject...

This model was commissioned be a member of my group. The "Chaos Commisar" was a commision piece I got for him from Insaniak.

I will say that my friend would have liked more spikes, as has been mentioned, but he was happy with the piece. It works, though, as the piece goes with a FW "Renegade" army and they're not overly mutated (the Commissar piece was converted before FW came out with their version)

It looks good in person. The Icon on the dozer blade is a nice addition to the piece. It really adds to the flavor.
The plasma looks good in person, too.
The highlights on the black are subtle, but they are definitely noticable when you look for them.

It's a nice piece.

Really? The impression I got from him when we were discussing the project was that he really hated the spikey bits and over the top "chaos wannabee" looks in general. I guess I must have misinterpreted him.

That's a lot of the inspiration behind the dozer blade, I was trying to give it a nice chaos renegade look without using most of the parts GW had supplied to do so.

Well, you're kind of right.
Maybe "liked" in that sentence should be replaced with "expected."
I wouldn't say he HATES the over the top look... but he definitely thinks "less is more" to a degree. KWIM?

I think that, maybe, 3 or 4 more spikes or sets of spikes would have still been in the realm of good taste.
Like I said, though, the most important thing is that he was still happy with it.

...and with good reason.

The icon on the dozer blade is an excellent idea and really comes off well on that piece.

Thanks for sharing.
