I've had all the books and many of the models for the old agents of gaming "B5wars" game since they came out. while the new version "a call to arms" is a faster more "streamlined" game, the complexity and detail of B5Ws made it enjoyable for me. recently my gaming group has become interested in revisiting B5Ws. as such we have been running new people through the system.
Here is a short battle report of our last game yesterday.
having a few small games under our belt we set off on a nice 8K per team starbase assault mission.
narn/EA alliance attacking a drak era centari starbase (the big round terrain piece) and defence fleet.
EA/narn side
1 warlock, 2 omega/1 bin'tak, 1 g'quonth(g'quon variant), 1 g'karith, 1 rongoth
centari side
1 kraken class warbase, 1 octurian battleship, 2 darkner frigates and a dargan cruiser.
we spent most of the fist few turns closing into range. so we jump ahead a bit to turn 3.
the field from the EA/narn side
(the terrain pieces are asteroid/ice fields)
the centari side
the centari fleet at first stayed well back trying not to over extend themselves beyond the bases supporting fire, when they finally did get underway it took them some time to get up to speed (especially the octurian) to close.
the narns slightly better engine ratio let them pull ahead of the EA force and hit the defending attack cruisers while the EA force hammered on the starbase.
.
this brief bloody engagement saw the base loose a full quarter of its hull(the EA player was rolling inordantly good this entire game to hit and damage) , 1 darkner nuetered and the other destroyed.
in return the centari damaged the warlock(but missed it alot) and severely damaged the bows on both the g'karith and the rongoth. so much so they had to do a pivot manuever to slow themselves down(which took the rest of the game while they traded shots with the starbase).
the next turn saw both forces turn in on one another. the station took some damage as did the remaning darkner and dargan. in return he warlock took a large dose of fire(but they tended to spread the damage all around and reduced its effect), as did the bin'tak.
.
.
what happened next can only be described as an up close and personal slugging match between the warlock, omegas, bin'tak and g'quonth against the station and the octurian.
in this turn the octuria took heavy damage, the warlock was esentially crippled and jumped away (barely surviving an unstable reactor and jump drive), one omega and the bin'tak took significant damage as well.
the dargan had just begun a combat pivot but lost all of its thrusters in the previous turn had one chace to fire before it spun out of controll off into the darkness of space. the other darkner fled the battle as it had no weapons to bring to bear anymore.
as both fleets broke past each other, they ended the match with a few fleeting volleys.
.
in the end the EA/narn alliance was able to damage and/or drive off the centari's mobile defence fleet while doing heavy damage to the starbase(thanks in no small part to the EA players above average dice rolling).
