Most of the games I play are around 1000 points and I play as Eldar. My friend has a very static IG army that is constantly pounding me from across the board. We usually play take and hold type missions and I barely come out with a victory in the end by zooming some jetbikes or a vyper. My question is, what can I do to get a more solid victory.

My usual army consists of a mounted fortuneseer with a spear, small group of harlequins, small group of dire avengers, jetbike squadron of 3 plus a warlock, vyper, and a falcon and/or fireprism.

The problem is, the harlequins and dire avengers almost never make it to attacking range. Template after template really takes its toll.

He usually runs around 2 leman russes, basilisk, 2 sentinels, a chimera, and a ton of heavy weapon platforms.

The usual game is my warlock group of bikes killing the basilisk while looking down the barrels of 2 leman russes while my army is still trying to catch up. His weapon platforms cover up all the lanes so almost nowhere is safe. If I use my falcon or fire prism to attack his tanks, they attract the fire of at least 2-3 lascannons.
I would like to know a few tactics or units I can use to beef up my game.

Thank you for any help and keep in mind these are 1000 point games.

If you going to get in a shooting match with guard then your going to have to be cunning about it.
Use the standard tricks of ducking and weaving though cover to minimize fire and hit him hard in one are at a time guard are fairly static, so you should be able to out flank him pretty easily unless he castles.
Harlies don't really do alot against guard, drop them for some Scorpions.

All out of witty one-liners.

Alright Ill try the scorpions. The trouble with any deepstriking or flanking is he holds tight to the board edges. Should I try to fit a Wave Serpent in their to take a squad or scorpions? Otherwise they will probably die trying to get there.

Falcons with HF are a tough nut to crack. Last time I played against guard it was all infantry and I'm kinda geared for medium to meq opponents. I ended up doing a 36 inch tank shock across his units with 2 falcons 1 prism and a serpent. It sent more than half his force of table. Thats not a concrete tactic though.

As for the scorps I'd put them in your falcon if you not making an all comers list. Swooping hawlk also do well against guard in a non competitive environment.
The thing is your list seems pretty alright for 1k points. From there it's up to you to be evasive and jump and shoot and generally frustrate you friend by never giving him a target to shoot back at. Even if your only killing a couple of guard a turn you can generaly get them to beak in the second round. Alot of eldar players do alot of nose tearing and face spiting. They rush our to get thing done because after all they want to kill as much as possible as soon as possible. Biding your time and setting up smart shooting galleries will make you success rate with eldar sky rocket. the problem is it's kinda hard to reley in a post how to do.

Sometimes you get screwed by terrain or an unlucky turn might set you back.

All out of witty one-liners.

How is your opponent fitting all that into a 1000pt list?

Not to mention the cheesyness of 3 Heavy support in a list that size, they take up half his points!

After taking two troop choices and a HQ I am surprised he has any points left to lavish on sentinals and heavy weapon platoons

it can be done. He's not upgrading anything though if he is. The troops selection is where is gets tricky.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

#1 play a bigger game. 2 Russ and a bassie fits better in 1500 than it does at 1000.

If you are going to play at this points level as is your best bet is (I wouldn't normally say this) but take six Harlies in a Falcon as the starting point of your list. Don't worry about the Falcon's guns, give it Holofield, Spirit Stones and Vectored Engines and stick it up 24". Soak it up and second turn deploy out the back, move + fleet + assault + rape everything you can touch.

Can you put up your list because this is what I've got it only comes in at about 750.

Farseer
-> Spear, Fortune, Jetbike

Harlies x6
-> Kisses

Dire Avengers x6

Jetbikes x3
-> Cannon + Warlock

Vyper
-> Eldar Missile Launcher

Falcon
-> Spirit Stones, Vectored Engines, Holo-fields, Starcannon, Shuriken Cannon

Once you've got the Falcon and Harlies doing their thing what I would do is put the Farseer in with the Jetbikes. Fortune the unit, then Turbo-boost someplace (forget attrition style shooting) then WHAM assault second turn.

I don't know what's on the Vyper an EML is good for both guard infantry and side shots and it has range.

As for the Dire Avengers I would probably hide them in terrain and just fleet towards the front lines.

Basically you want your guys in close combat so they can't kill you. Once you get the scrum going you can go from there, but that's a good use of your bikes and fortune. You could also use your bikes as Warlocks with a bit of conversion and get a rerollable 4++ invulnerable save.

"Can you put up your list because this is what I've got it only comes in at about 750."

Im going to do some playtesting hopefully within the next couple of days and use this as the base of my army. Im going to experiment with the rest of the points and then I will tell you results. If I have time, I will even post a battle rep of the game here so you guys can help me further. Thank you up to this point.

I would like to thank you for your guys help. These past two days proved massacres against my IG opponent. I used a fortuneseer, some destructor mounted warlocks, jetbikes, falcon, fireprism, and a vyper. I tried using units like harlies and scorpions but found they could never keep pace with the rest of my army and I didnt have enough room for serpents. My opponent cried cheese after the second game so from here Im just going to find something fun thats different and suits my style. Thanks again,
wonderboy
