for those point levels.. I dunno if i'd spend that much on snickrot.
low points games (atleast where I play) tend to get played on a 4x4 rather than a 4x6. your lootas should have a good firing lane on most of the board.
(in combat patrol I play 15 lootas and 26 shoota boyz w/ 2 rokkits no nob 401 pts)
of cource you could just double that and run something like this:
mek with
SAG, 'eavy armor - 100
(why the armor? had 5 pts left)
Lootas (15) - 225
Lootas (15) - 225
30 Shootas - 245
3 RL
Nob w/
PK
25 Shootas - 205
2 RL
Nob w/
PK
86 models
I would set up in as much cover as you can, and keep the shoota boyz back. I know that seems mighty un-orky.. but if your gonna shoot they gotta come to you or sit in range of those deffguns.
if they advance within 24" of you, move up and throw a pile of shoota dice at them.
thats if you REALLY want to play foot sloggage. I can tell you the lootas are damn worth it.. they're amazing. you could spread out the mobs of shoota boyz to stop deepstriking etc.
of cource if you wanted to smokescreen, it wouldn't be a terrible idea to throw some grots in there.
as you build up to 1500, fill the 2nd squad to 30 shootas, add a 3rd squad of 30, and bring in the 2nd mek with
kff.. but keep him with the lootas so you can have both squads out in the open and still take cover saves.
I almost went this way but like playing
KOS with lots of trukks instead.. I still take lootas and a mek though
and people think orks cant shoot... wait until you throw 50+ shoota dice at something.. they can only make so many saves and when you manage to put 15 or so wounds on a
tac squad (make the power fist or whatever save seperate from the torrent of fire) stuff starts to die.
