Hi,

Have a battle soon against mate's Tyranids, never faced them before and have listed his list of models below. He says it comes to 1300 points (haven't got his codex) so can anyone advise on possible tactics? Another mate lost very badly to him using his Tau so don't want to get slaughtered!

1 x Broodlord
3 x Warriors
3 x Zoan (ones with big heads)
1 x Carnifex
1 x Lictor
3 x Raveners
3 x Ripper bases
16 x each of Genestealers/Hor gaunts/gaunts

Will post a few lists later in the week but wondered if a) sentinals were worth taking to slow his smaller bugs down (I have 6 of these) b) considering taking 2 Hellhounds and no heavy tanks? c) Ratlings worth taking (have 10).

Cheers

Jeff

Tons of heavy bolters.

Maybe a ratling unit to give the carnifex something to think about.

Lots of las cannons.

Droptroops maybe to have something that can sieze objectives (although that battle may already be lost).

Because of the Zoanthropes, carnifex, and large amount of stuff with rending, I would hold off on the tanks. You want to maximize the number of shots happening, so get tons of guys, and keep your firelanes in mind.

Focus on bringing units down, don't spread your fire around to much.

Despite what I said about tanks... 1 or 2 hellhounds would be pure joy against about 70% of this army.

Did I mention heavy bolters?

Take 3 Leman Russes, and 3 Hellhounds.

Game over, unless he's a TMC list with tons of Extended Carapace.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person, who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

yep I agree three leman russ and 3 hellhounds and he doesnt have the power to stop you before you blew him off the board in a hand basket. Only other thing that would help you dominate would be to take 3-6 lascannons for the ap2 to bring down the zoanthropes. Even without that he simply cannot stop that much armour. Kit out your tanks like this:

Doctrines
------------
Grenadiers

HQ
Junior Officer
Support squad
3x Lascannon

10x Grenadiers w/ 2x plasma guns
9x Grenadiers w/ 2x plasma guns
9x Grenadiers w/ 2x plasma guns

3x Leman Russ w/ 3x Heavy bolters
3x Hellhounds

1300 Points
