Title says it all. In the 40K fluff are the vine patterns on vrhicles and wraithguard and such only used by Biel-Tan, or just more typical of that craftworld? I'm working on an Altansar army. I've got a dark color change paint (Magenta/Amber) for my basecoat, but I'm having trouble with a good contrasting color and design for my Falcons. Any suggestions?

If more of us valued food and cheer and 40K over hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

I don't think vines are Biel-Tan exclusive, but I'll go check my v3 craftworld codex.

there are laods of smaller craftworlds out there so i wouldn't object to seeing other eldar using similar iconography. i say go for it.

Of the main craftworlds, the vines are a trademark of the Beil'tan. Don't be surprised if they serve you an infringement lawsuit if you put them on a different paint scheme.

On the subject though... Anyone have advice on a good way to go about painting them? Need to work on my first Wave Serpent soon.

Draw the lines on with a pencil when you're first starting to try them out is my guess. Gives you something to work with and follow.

I use a circle stencil for when I'm doing the squad markings on my rhinos. Pencil in the circle, paint it, then put the correct transfer onto the circle. It REALLY helps me freehand a circle onto the side of the hull. I can post a pic if thats confusing.

I believe the codex (either current or 3rd, can't remember) has a text-box in the color section that illustrates a simple method for painting vines.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

IIRC, they advised you to draw the vines on with pencil, and then draw little triangles onto them. Then paint in the lines.

Traditionaly, the vine scheme is part of the Biel-Tan paint scheme. However, if you want vines on your models, paint vines on them. There is no penalty for having some imagination and not painting your models exactly like the examples in the book.

Vine on eldar falcons look great ,but only if done right, practice on some paper first and do draw them with a fine pencil first(.05mm mechanical pencils are good for this), make sure you space the thorns out equally and that they are sensible size and dont go overboard.

I find black thorns look good on green, white and red.For black or blue you should try cream/white thorns.

Keep your paint thin and wet ,and try to paint the whole vine's curves in one stroke so it looks fluid and natural ,dont worry if you dont keep exactly to the pencil line but try to keep the curves tight and avoid any form of straight line .
