Hello all,

My FLGS is putting on a 1,000 point Tournament, and I have decided to take my trusty Eldar. I had a 1,500 point list on Dakka somewhere about a week ago, but the lower points cost is forcing me to reconsider the army. Namely:

- points effectiveness, I need to get the most "bang for my buck", so to speak.
- army size, it's very easy, especially with Eldar, to overload on shiny stuff until you have about 20 men. If I give anyone wargear, there must be a very good reason for giving them it.
- army style, at 1,000 points, it's a LOT harder to make a "balanced" list that can shoot/assault equally well. Therefore, Ive concentrated on the shootyness, with only one dedicated assault unit. (the Spears)
- there are some obscene lists that can be taken in 1k points, so in the name of a good tournament, some semblance of comp is being stuck to. This list is probably rather sub-optimal, but can still be very effective IMHO.
- I can't afford to specialise, since I could be facing anything from Tyranid Gaunt hordes to about 25 model strong Chaos lists.

Onto the list:

HQ (80) (8%)

Farseer: Doom - 80 points

Probably my favourite psychic power, it's just so useful in so many situations. In 1k, Lash is less of a concern, so Runes of Warding have been dropped to save points.

ELITES (113) (11.3%)

6 Fire Dragons: Exarch with Dragon’s Breath Flamer and Crack Shot - 113 points

Anti-tank and anti-horde. Placed in a Falcon to run up to trouble spots and provide protection. I prefer them over Harlequins because theyre cheaper and more versatile.

TROOPS (334) (33.4%)

10 Guardians: Scatter Laser Platform - 95 points

10 Guardians: Scatter Laser Platform - 95 points

Stay with Farseer, advance and shoot. Or hide in cover and shoot.

6 Pathfinders - 144 points

Hide in cover and shoot any targets of oppurtunity. They can reliably take down big, high save targets (Oblits, TMCs, etc) in a couple of turns, especially in 1k, where there will rarely be more than 2 or so such targets on the board.

FAST ATTACK (187) (18. 7%)

4 Shining Spears: Exarch with Withdraw and Skilled Riders - 187 points

My only dedicated assault unit, they will turbo boost or hide in cover to protect themself until they are in a position to strike. They are a scalpel, and will devastate any unit if used effectively.

HEAVY SUPPORT (285) (28.5%)

Falcon Grav-Tank: Shruiken Cannon, Vectored Engines, Holo-Field, Spirit Stones - 185 points

Usually I wouldn't take a lone tank in 1k, but its the only way to get my Dragons to where they need to be, and it's survivable enough to take a fair wee bit of firepower.

2 Vibro-Cannons - 100 points

Anti-tank and part time horde thinners. Hide behind the biggest piece of cover I can find and fire away.

TOTAL: 999 points (40 models)

Well, a shooty list supported by a DoomSeer, and the Shining Spears as a counterstrike unit.
Keep it...

Pardon me if I've missed something, but I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean that in a positive or negative sense?

(sorry if I sound like Im getting at you, but your post left me bewildered)

Sorry. What I meant is keeping the list as it is.

Ah okay. Thanks for clarifying. Sorry about that.

Yes, that is a good list given all the conditions that you list.

On the Dragons, flamers already don't allow cover saves, so you don't need Crack Shot as much.

At 1K points, you're going to have quite a battle on your hands against horde armies. Please let us know how you do with this list!

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Crack shot also allows re-roll to wound. Can you say twin-linked heavy flamer action?

Anyway, I love the list. I would prefer getting a few more bodies onto the field, though. Guardians with a starcannon instead of the pathfinders. This will also insure your scatter laser guardians get there and focuses the list more on the doom farseer. Doesn't really make the list better and a Wraithlord with Starcannon and Wraithblade would probably be an even better choice than that. I just think the pathfinders are a bit out of place in this list.

Yes, Crack shot does give you re-rolls to wound. It's not worth the points vs. 1/2 of another trooper or a better weapon option somewhere, though.

The pathfinders have better range than starcannon guardians overall. Vs. hordes, they are also better for number of wounds inflicted after saves.

If you dump anything with a sniper rifle, don't dump the pathfinders. Take out Rangers before Pathfinders for sure.
