Got the bitz in the mail, and finaly starting on this. The gist of it is I don't like the Eldar Jetbikes or the figs that go on them, too static, not enough dynamics for my taste, so I'm making boards for them to stand on instead. Right now I'm just trying to decide if I want to face the engines forwards or backwards. Whatdoyathink?

Forwards is much more pleasing to my eye. It looks better balanced that way, and it creates a visual link between your interesting new conversion and the Eldar designs we're all used to.

I'm not quite sure which way IS forward or backward, but I would have to say the second set of pictures (I think they're pointed forward there) has a more balance appearance. The wings of the engines sweeping forward has a more aggressive appearance and feels as if it would have a more dynamic control then sweeping back.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

While I give time for a piece of green stuff to set, here's some work on the rider, mainly his laser lance, which I'm making as more of a glaive.

Cool idea, and the initial stages are looking pretty slick. I vote for swept forward as well, to help the concept fit into the preconceived notions of traditional panzee design.

another vote on the "usual" position.

nice concept, btw, hope the Eldar you'll glue on won't look to static on their hip new rides.

Definitely. Some dynamic, bent knee, "moving obscenely fast, trying to balance and not break my neck while still exacting swift death with a polearm" style poses are in order.

Won't get quite that fancy with the Autarch, the metal cloak makes it so I can't bend his knees at all. He's going to have the nose of the board tilted up, fusion gun aimed straight out, like he's coming to a quick stop to blast ya good.

Swept forwards for sure.

And great idea. Looking forward to updates.

Due to yet more changes to my expansion list, the guy riding this first board is going back to my original plan of a Farseer, and decided to make this one shorter/wider to give it more of a palanquin type of feel. May go ahead and do the Shining Spears with longer more sleek boards when I do them at a later date.

For now, here's a shot of the engines attached to the sides and the inset magnet that I'll use to keep the guy in place so it's easier to separate and store. Then some shots of the plasticard making up the bed, and the surican catapults on the underside. Lastly for tonight is a kind of test shot of the board up on a base with it's intended rider. Yes he'll of coarse not be on a round base of his own when I get done. He's going to need some work on his feet, since they're at different heights to each other. The board itself really just needs some green stuff to fill in the gaps.

Good move on setting the intakes/fins slightly lower than the front bit of the platform. Honestly it looks fine without the plasticard bed, even. The circular markings on the original model look good around the magnet. Maybe the bed looks better in person, though- it's hard to tell with the camera glare off the white plastic.

That looks really slick, and is a great solution. Will the Seer be switchable to a standing base as well, or just magnetized for convenience of storage?

.. as the farseer guns it in reverse, magicking as he withdraws

But really, besides the cloak billowing funky that's some slick work. I too think it looks nice without the bed, but perhaps you have alterior motives for it.

With the original plans having it be longer, there was some grinding down of that circle, which is normally raised a bit, to make room for a longer bed. Even though it's gone with a shorter design now, that bed does still add some length to it. May scratch some lines into it for detail.

While I had not thought of it, there's really no reason I can't throw a magnet onto a normal base to sit him on as well.

And yeah, I'm aware of the oddness so his blowing robes. The Autarch I had planned on suffers from the same problem. I figure they're pictured in the middle of the whole MoveShootMove thing Eldar Jetbikes get to do.

On the otherhand, I don't know if I'll end up doing my Shining Spears like this, because I've just seen a picture of what the new Eldar Jetbikes are going to look like, and it's just darn cool, so I may have several extra platforms to experiment with.

Boss Salvage has hit on my biggest concern with these guys. Granted, the existing Eldar jetbikers look like they're going for a scooter ride around Ibiza, not rocketing into combat like the DE jetbikers. My concern is giving the jet board riders a pose that will make them look like they're really moving, not just standing still on a hoverboard.

With the Farseer I don't feel the need for the appearance of breakneck speed. If/when I do the Shining Spears, they'll be multi-part plastic bodies, which I could pose better.

Very nice. The farseer's robes don't bother me, but the rock on his base does a bit. I realize that's part of the model, but I think there are other farseer models that don't have "basing" built in.

Where did you see pictures of the new jetbikes?

Hey dude, happen to have the shadow weaver cannon bit that came with that platform ? I could use a third

Well, I think it's pretty much done. My original plan to have the magnet inside his foot just didn't work. He was standing up without it, but then the magnet didn't get perfectly level inside his foot, so it would tip him over when you tried to stand him on the board. I ended up drilling a hole thru the bed, and putting the magnet flat on his foot like a pin. I then set up his other foot in the same way, so he's got two sets of magnets. They're not strong enough for either the guy to lift the board or vise versa, but they do well enough to keep him from falling off while moving it around a table.

Nice choice of a model to mount the board, there. And adding the backpack fin to the shuricats underneath- nice subtle detail.

the platform itself is a bit un-eldar, but besides that, it's a really nice conversion, and makes much more sense for a farseer IMO than a normal jetbike.

Yeah, needed something there because otherwise it seemed to end to abruptly into a void of space. And the whole thing was less of a guy to put on the board, so much as a way to use the guy with the benefits of a jetbike.

Really? I couldn't help but think the board looked like an epic scale Eldar flier as it was coming together.
