I swear at some point I read somewhere that Eldar Exarchs sometimes have reversed color schemes from the squads they lead. Meaning, if Dire Avengers are Blue with White trim, the Exarch would be painted White with Blue trim. After digging out my old Dire Avengers, I've been explaining why the Exarch is White, and now I can't find that snippet anywhere.

Did I make this up, or does anybody else remember that bit of fluff?

Well, obviously there wasn't much interest in this issue, but I did finally find where i read it. It was in the paragraph on Painting Aspect Warrios in Codex: Craftworld Eldar. It wasn't so much a pronouncment as a suggestion on how to distinguish exarchs from the rest of the squad.

I can't imagine that every shrine on every craftworld would not have some variation. While purple dire avengers might take some explaining, I dont see how reversing the colors or adding stripes or what not would be out of character. I plan on doing that, if for no other reason than to differentiate squads.

The practice goes back much further than that. I remember a painting article in an old WD which covered this very issue. It was during the era of the Blood Angels/Alaitoc batreps.

Thanks for that info. I was just going mad, because I had read the 2nd, 3rd and 4th edition codices and hadn't seen anything about reveresed colors. There were a few banshee exarchs painted red, but some banshees are just red.

The only reason I was concerned is that I'm starting an ultra-orthodox biel-tan swordwind. Strict shrine colors, green trim on all models, painted on runes, no meat and dairy in the same meal, etc; using as many 2nd edition models as possible. If anybody is interested, I can post some pics of the Dire avengers I have painted.

It's so that snipers can pick them off more easily.

“Battle Brother Maynard, bring forth The Holy Orb of Antioch!”

This signature needs more dakka! That's better.

I'd be interested to see some pictures of the army.
