Just received my Treewoman thing from Ultraforge and thought I would post some thoughts in the news section so people would know what they are getting and quality etc. I always like to try and support smaller companies but sometimes they just suck. Ultraforge definitely do not suck - I whole heartedly recommend them.
Delivery
First off, it arrived promptly within the time scale they said. The package was one of those bubble wrapped envelopes and the parts were securely wrapped within some cushioning wrap. It arrived safely. What more can you ask for.
Cast
Upon opening it I have to admit that, despite having ridiculously high picky standards sometimes, I was blown away by the quality of the casting. The number of air bubbles was minimal – there is a large’ish one on the face but nothing a small amount of green stuff won’t solve. Mold lines were extremely minimal and often set into detail and therefore hidden. The right arm did have more pronounced mold lines but no worse than any plastic model kit you will have dealt with. Tidy up work prior to putting the model together is very minimal – it is less tidy up work than you would see on a GW Space Marine plastic.
Fit
The kit comprises of 4 pieces and a sculpted bases. No word of a lie – this model almost fits together requiring no glue and no green stuff. The join of the left arm to the body is almost invisible. The gap where the left leg joins to the body leaves a gap smaller than many plastic kits. It also is cast so that the leg has a built in pin that is extremely substantial and holds the leg securely in place with no glue!
Detail.
Very few things to complain about here. The model definitely fits in with the Warhammer universe IMHO. The branches are well detailed, as are the various tree knots. The vines wrapped around the body are smooth, although flattened incorrectly in a few places (but that is personal preferences really). I do feel the main part of the face should still be as feminine but maybe with a few cracks or faint vines showing – a little bit to smooth for my liking. Having said that, I do like the face for its realistic feminine look and the hair effect is extremely well done. There are no leaves on the kit, but that leaves you to pick your “season” and leaves can be added (Woodland Scenics sells some I think). It is not an overly detailed kit but this is definitely a case of “less is more”. IMHO the level of detail is entirely appropriate.
The Base
A couple of cracks in it, but easily solved with green stuff. It is a two level base and not too dissimilar to realistic base styles in GD’s. It fits in well with the style of the model and is a well thought out complement to the model – to some degree it does look like the model has just finished forming itself and is lifting itself out of the ground. There are a couple of skulls on it for all GW fans but sadly no purity seals!
Summary
Extremely well cast and well fitted kit. Minimal air bubbling & tidy up work need. Detail is crisp and appropriate. Extremely good value for money. I would recommend this kit and the people running it without hesitation. Overall 9 out of 10 (lets face it, no-one is perfect)
