SO I'm fielding a KOS list (its actually a proxy list for squats - you can see some infantry in the modeling and painting forum).

I have 23 bikes and will probably acquire a few more yet. I wlll field wazzdakka so they count as troops.

What size bike units should I run and why? 6,8,12?

Losing 'Fearless' really hurts small bike units. And larger units are harder to hide behind scenery.

But if your skin is green, you'll go big or go home! I vote larger units for actual assault punch (alongside the trukks), or a small suicide squad to play panzee hide and go shoot.

I'm still working out the numbers myself, but I currently vote for at least 10 and probably 12.

12 gives you fearlessness for longer than anything else. An errant basilisk shell drops on you and gets a guy, then you get to be fearless for that pin test. Fear of the darknessed while still hiding behind terrain? Still fearless. Assaulting a hive tyrant? The horror is passed auto. If your opponent is trying to spread shooting to force morale tests, he will have to kill 3 bikers. With the 'always on' cover save, that means hes gonna have to cause 6 wounds on T5, and then if he moves on, you'll be testing on a 9.

Now, its expensive, its not indestructable like a PM unit, but its damn shooty, hard hitting and fast. Like Teek said, with anything orky, if you have to decide between big mobs and little mobs, just go with big.

Feel free to PM me to talk about your list ideas....

2 units of twelve it is.

With 2 units and wazzdakka hopefully whichever unit takes serious hits first wazzdakka can shift and give LD 9.

I would go with units of 8. If the 5th ed test rules are a good indication of the direction Bikes are going 8 is going to be a solid number as they will all benefit from a 3+ cover save when turbo boosting after that they should all be in combat.

Also I would suggest using the 40mm Bike base. This was demonstated in a WD about a year back. all you need to do is cut a 40mm round base in half and attach each side to a 40mm square base. This will allow you to hide the bikes better than the standard 60mm round base that is given with the bikes. (not sure how this will play out in 5th though).
