A couple friends and I got a crazy idea to start a podcast. Our first half of our first episode is in the can:
http://www.thed6generation.com/
Also, Yak was kind enough to approve a little section on Dakka to discuss our latest episode. That thread can be found here:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/208141.page
This is our first attempt, and there are some audio leveling issues typical with a bunch of rookies with mic's, but hopefully you'll find it reasonably entertaining. Let us know what you think!

It is a crazy idea all right.
I don't think it works though. I may be partial, because I am not the lurking type, but lurking a forum is still easy to direct according to topics and you can skim through a thread. You cannot do that with audio, and I really wouldn't even skim others talking about hobby stuff somewhere, when there is discussion with interaction available, or music to listen to
Maybe a podcast with video of a top tournament would draw an audience?

I disagree, migsula. I like the gaming podcasts, particularly listening to them while painting. For those of us who like to vary the music with a bit of dialogue, it's nice background noise that keeps the mind on the same thing you're working on. And when you only have so much time to dedicate to hobby stuff, it's nice to get some info/yakking in while doing the more important stuff (painting the vast bare-plasic hordes...). It's a nice compromise- otherwise I find forum lurking eats up more of my hobby time that I would rather go to getting stuff done.
Nice start, Russ.

Liked it a lot.
Sure its rather rough around the edges, but I liked the humour, liked the analysis, appreciated the experience behind the opinions.
And best of all, agree that PP whups GW's ass!

I like the The McLaughlin Group so I get the parody but the 'host' for that segment of the Podcast is just way too annoying to listen to (and too loud) and the 'panelists' are much too quiet and difficult to hear on that segment as well.
I almost gave up on the whole thing before you guys switched to 'normal' mode. If the MG piece had gone on another minute I would have given up on the Podcast entirely.
The remainder of the Podcast was just fine but the audio quality needs improvement overall.
Bye, bye. ;-)

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

Yak in the show:
I'd definitly like to have guests on the show, and we have the technology to easily interview anyone in the world. I'd love to have Yak and other members on from the community from time to time. But I think I want to wait until we get a bit more of a listener base before I trouble people for their time.
Tanker:
How could we have forgotten "Bye bye!!" That will definitly be in the next one. We really had bad mic position through much of the show, esp in the McLaughlin bit, and I hope to have that fixed by Episode 2.
Thanks to everyone for taking the time to listen.

I just got through listening to both episodes.
First episode was hilarious."An entire army of undead egyptian skorne warjacks" Nice.
Great stuff. I sincerely hope you continue to make them, "Rosty the Redtoofed Phonebooth".
The second episode was very informative and entertaining to boot. I especially liked the GW Vs. PP comparison discussion from the POV of a former retail owner (yourself) a GW fanboy, and....? A goodly amount of varied opinions instead of just "BOO HISSS! GW is the suxxor!".
It was very much like sitting at the local game shop and listening to the grognards discuss games they enjoy. I like this, because I usually got to Tower Games and just sit and rap with the regulars on gaming (or eavesdrop on their discussions of such) in general while painting.
I really wanted to yell "AMEN Bruthuh Russ!" when you were discussing the point on GW advertising and how they have slit their own throats.

Hi, I only listened to the part 2 and I must say that I pretty much agree with everything that was said by Russ. I'm both a PP and GW player and I do feel that the PP's game mecanic is better. However, I also have the feeling that some warcastesr are way more powerful than some others.
I dont know if it's like that for you guys but here in Montréal, I noticed that most PP players play unpainted and most GW players play painted. For me, that is a big advantage for GW.
Great episode!

only 1 complaint. you guys do a lot of yelling, could you add some level of audio leveling in post production ? other then that it was a fun listen and i enjoy you exposing people to games besides GW's.

I have only one question,
when ya'll gonna get this bad boy on itunes so I can put it in my download list along with my other 75 podcasts.
kind of an audio junkie since I spend 3-4 hours a day on the road.
Love it so far, great first effort and everyone has audio trouble at first unless you come from a radio background.
Please keep it up!
Once you have a few episodes I will do one of my podcast reviews for it on my blog and link around to promote the show. Im a big fan of people who take the time to put out content for love of the hobby!

SWEET!

I really think this show could fill the void that I see in hobby gaming audio podcasts. Up until now there was nothing that really put forward some expert minds in the hobby. You guys also manage to keep a great sense of humor and I can only imagine it getting better.
One suggestion to possibly help you with the learning curve on audio mixing and the like is the Podcasting for Dummies companion podcast. They have some great episodes on audio mixing, sound level control and equipment investment. The thing I like most about it is that they use the podcast itself to show the practical difference between the various levels of equipment, software and editing. Hearing the difference is much more helpful in my opinion compared to reading about it.
Anyway, keep up the good work, looking forward to more.

I listened to the latest episode 3 over the weekend. Much better. Even the annoying intro is bearable, and even mildly amusing, now that one knows it is only going to be a few minutes long. A testament to the show is that while I do not like fantasy gaming at all and have no interest in it I still found your discussion of WH Fantasy interesting and didn't skip past any of it. I've now subscribed to the show. Keep up the good work.
It sounds like some of you guys are in Massachusetts? Have you thought about contacting Danger Planet in Waltham about sponsoring the show?

Thanks for giving us a chance to grow on ya. (Kinda like gangreen)
We actually live in southern NH, but we know Danger Planet and I know Brian. (The owner) I love that store and wish I could get down there more. We want to get the show as polished as possible before going out to sponsors. We're getting close, but we've still got a few more tweaks.
Thanks again!
