Looks really great so far. I think another stage of spot highlights akin to Lemmingspawns lava bases could put it over the top.
The bridges should look suitably rickety. At least that's what I'm envisioning in my head.
This table would be a blast to play a skirmish on.
Oh and, Welcome to Dakka ^_^!

Wow - beautiful terrain. Any chance of building both regular bridges as well as some collapsed/collapsing bridges?

well i am going to just play test it with proxy bridges to see if gameplay is evn possible.. a third of the table is this configuration.. my concern is that deployment zones like cleanse or anything that has quarters could be confounded by the large volcano and impassable terrain... its something that has to be tested..
I have to admit though it came out well as it was my first terrain project that wasnt buildings or bunkers.
oh so you know this table is 4x6 but i have another section tht could take it to 4 x 8.

Looks good, but I'm having flashbacks of the lava world terrain at the last Grand Tournament I was in and the battle where I got crushed by Necrons.

Looks nice, but those will have to be some ginormous bridges if the map is to be playable without too much frustration.

the Lava is layering of gloss protective enam,el from spray cans some Orange, Red and Yellow til you get the desired effect... it takes a while to dry for each layer but the results are worth it.

Lava tables are neat, and everyone wants to build at least one. They are the SAFH's best friend, that's for sure...

I was gunna say that. The only way to not give shooty armies a huge advantage is to --and I know it's awful to say this but-- ignore the lava for movement purposes. Failing that, just make it DT with a 5++ save.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism." -Hermann Goering (high ranking Nazi)

in many of the games that I have played on lava tables, we have used special rules for the lava and we have also used no rules for the lava.
in friendly games, this would definately be fun to play on.
very nicely done..

found some other pics that i think demonostrate the difficulty of this terrain. I took my almost complete Land Raider and placed it on the terrain and realized that if i even want to use it i better get a bridge big enough so i made something quick and here is what i came up wth.

Played blessedly few games on lava tables, thankfully. One was at an RTT, and the IW player and I decided that since we're all marines in power armor the lava did nothing. Other was against Deffwing in a casaul game and we said the lava was difficult terrain with a 5+ cover save, but the table was so bouncy and pited with cratters that rolling was ridiculous. I should have conceded right there for picking that damn table
THIS lava table looks great though, love how bright the lava is, nice work.

Here's a thought. This is for a campaign, right? So, even if you can't make bridges large enough to make it effective for choppy armies, balance it by making a table that favors choppy armies - it could be as simple as having a table with huge amounts of cover or having a fog or night-world where all shooting has to use night-fighting rules.

Hey Boss i know that name its Ty running the campaign. Good to see you on here..
Just taking some time from work to get some pics up on the site . Head you mention this site when i was down there the one weekend. Good Site i must say... no overly elitist attitudes here where yuo almost feel like a noob when you ask a rather difficult question and replies come back like ... "why didnt you know that you tard, go play heroscape"
See you at the Portal soon.
