Sammael on JB

5 termies

10 tactical marines
rhino

6 bikes
1 attack bike
1 speeder

It comes in around 1200 points based on what options you take.

Me and the guys play mostly 1750, so what should we get to expand it out to legal list.

Keep in mind we are playing about 80% under the rumored 5th edition rules. I'm curious if many of you think the veteran biker should have a fist or not, or any other equipment choices that don't come natural to me, as a non marine player.

Also, i hate posts like these generally, I promise that any advice i get will get tested in a game very soon, but I'm a bit stuck on what exactly to steer him towards as we get started.

2 more termie units and you'll have a army.

If you get very good at running it, it can do decently enough.

It's very much a casual list. Tournament calibre it is not.

thanks Stelek, that's a quick fix to get him started.

No worries about the tourney scene... He's not likely to see a tourney for quite some time...

And the rest of us in my group can be expert sandbaggers if need be, especially to hook new meat.

Just out of morbid curiosity. If you had to go to a 1750 toruney and you had to take dark angels with no inquisition allies. What would that list look like?

Stelek mentioned the termie route but you can also go for another unit of bikes and cut elsewhere if needed to make pt limit. Since you have Sammie more bikes can increase your troop selection. Either method works. Dread or a predator is a good addition as well.

I'd probably end up running a bunch of terminators, 6 squads or so. In 5th I'd also run Sammael on his land speeder if I had the points. He's very pricey.

Anyhoo I wouldn't deep strike my termies, I'd just start on the field and walk up. If you have the points, get Belials termie squad the apothecary.

If you are going to run RW + Sammael, get his command squad and take their apothecary as well.

Yeah, since Sammael is your HQ, one bike squad can have the RW banner (+1 attack) and an Apothecary. The Apoth is worth every point when he's saving Bikers and Terminators.

For the extra 500 points, 2 termie squads, 2 more Tactical squads in Rhinos, one of each, an assault squad and a termie squad, etc. One of the fun things about the DA codex is that most of the units are worth the same number of points which really makes you think about what you want to take. I'd lean towards a Termie squad and another Tactical squad in Rhino. If you take a lascannon, it gives you some more AT and some extra bodies.

here's what i'd do. use the jetbike sammael parts with the landspeeder to make a really nice sam on speeder model.

buy a second attack bike and run two troop squads with three bikes and an attack each.

then two predators, a whirlwind and another tactical will fill out the list.

it'll still be solid when 5th rolls around, assuming there aren't any big surprises.

other good options are devastators (only unit that really benefits from combat squads) and veterans with drop pods (great fighters for the points and you can give em a nice alpha strike on the drop with combi-plasma if you want.
