Does anybody have or know where I can find a chart that shows the conversions between P3 paints and GW citadel paints? I am compiling a paint chart article and am missing a chart of that one range and it is really bugging me I am aware of http://colors.silicon-dragons.com/full_line.php but it is not very accurate at all.

I have added the P3-less guide here:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Paint_Range_Compatibility_Chart

I think it is now the most accurate and convenient chart for finding GW equivalent paints that exists anywhere.

Check it out and spread the word to other forums to help us find the P3 compatibility we need to complete the chart

No offense, but it's quite hard to get a compatibility chart for P3. Thrallmar Black is a blue black unlike Chaos Black whilst Brass Balls is more like Burnished Gold then Brazen Brass <.<

Even then Burnished and Brass look very different.

Yeah that's what I had assumed, I was hoping that there would be at least a few colours that are compatible and that someone somewhere had figured them out already though.

Well, looking at my own P3/Citadel paints I can offer some things.

I'd stress that you put on the chart that P3 and Citadel do not match up perfectly but...

Menoth White Highlight -> Skull White
Brass Balls -> Burnished Gold
Jack Bone -> Bleached Bone

I'll have to dig through the rest to help more but it's a start I hope.

wouldn't it just be easier to stick with one manufacturer?

Some people switch brands or add to their army years after painting the first models, and it's helpful to get paints that match colors. Also, manufacturers sometimes drop colors, so you have to look elsewhere.

Easier, yes. Practical, not always.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

When you have painted an army using a particular colour and then that colour is discontinued (as has happened to me twice now), lists like these are invaluable. It also offers the chance to migrate to a different paint range if you got started on one range but are getting fed up with it (for example the old screw top GW paints drove a lot of people away. there was even a photo of the GW studio desk with Vallejo paints on it IIRC). Mixing and matching different ranges offers different options, such as a slightly different finish for some ranges, more compatible colours, different pigment coverage, etc. All in all there are many reasons why you might want to use more than one range.

Also, no range is truly comprehensive.

I feel you there, but no matter how close the color is, it's not the same. You could achieve the same or better result mixing up the color on your own. but I see where you are headed with that. I guess if someone stayed with apple barrel paints, it would fine, they never drop their color line.. lol

Plus, even if I stick with using GW paints as I typically have, how can I not choose to go outside the range to buy a bottle of PP's Brass Balls?

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

You might want to add the Reaper Pro Paints as well, since there are new colors on the way

I didnt add it originally as it seemed like it was on its way out, but if they are updating it then I'll keep an eye on it and I (or anyone) can update the article when they come out.

Yep. There's a chart of the new colors HERE. It looks like they'll be released sometime in May.
