Reading the codex and the rule book (just purchased) and having trouble seeing the answers...

I build a squad of guardians and upgrade to a heavy weapons platform. Can said weapon be transported by a wave serpent? Must the squad with the heavy weapon remain a foot slogging unit?

On a related note, am I better off using my models to build heavy support platoons?

ah crap wheres my codex ? well after reading the codex there is unfortunatley no real answer to your question but Im going to take a guess that no you cannot. as for support platforms over heavy weapons platforms it depends on what other models you have in your army.

Read over the guardian and the wave serpent entries in the eldar codex again and you will have your answer. However to cut things a little short, yes a weapons platform can be transported in a wave serpent.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

yup.

You couldn't in the last book but you can in this one.

Better to use Dire Avengers and march your weapon teams, anyway.

True enough. Guardians lack the range to stay out of rapid fire range of anything they shoot at. Dire Avengers have the fire power to cripple their targets and the range to avoid other interferance. Guardians are best used (at least for me) as long range units that have some teeth if you manage to close the gap to them. They also make good speed bumps for catching incomming assault units.

I can see Guardian Defenders in a Wave Serpent being useful in one situation: when you really want the Wave Serpent and not the Guardians. In other words, when you want Peter Elias-style Wave Serpent spam but not the obvious (and, to some, distasteful) min-maxing of 5-man DA squads. 10 Defenders with a shuriken cannon are 85 points and aren't that awful at shooting.

Being the Donald Rumsfeld style cheap skate that I am, 33 years wargaming with 8 playing Fantasy, and new to 40K, I thought I would buy some battalion boxes and see if it was workable.

So - no tanks per se, but wave serpents, walkers, and lots of dire avengers and National Guard (I mean guardians). Maybe a viper or two bought extra with my Christmas money from the in-laws.

I guess it would be best to have the guardians sit on or near objectives you are defending (or set up to have line of site with the heavy weapon to objective you want to take) and put the avengers in the wave serpent since they are better assaulters.
