Hey all, I am a veteran MEQ and Tau player who has dug into a new bug army. This is the first time I have ever had a 5+ save that wasn't invulnerable so it's a new style for me. Anyway, I was wondering what kind of Synapse creatures are most effective for a swarm army. I had purchased the Endless Swarm before they ran out, and just missed out on the Carnifex deal. The idea was to be, and still eventually will be, termagaunts and gaunts supported by carnifexes with some stealers.

Right now I have a decent number of Warriors ( which I now am hearing may suck) and have not built half of them. With the general composition of my army, what would you guys suggest for arming the remaining Warriors? Also what other Synapse suggestions would you have for this force?

I am a long-time reader and I couldn't find anything already posted, so I value most of your opinions and want to see what you all come up with. Nothing to drastic, I am keeping what Warriors I have, I am keeping the swarm. Don't just tell me to switch to a Zilla list or some such. K Thanks!

hey there... not a bug player myself but I've logged plenty of hours playing exterminator.

Have no fear. there are rumored rules for 5th edition floating around. this new edition is set to be released in july. If the rumors are even partially accurate, warriors are going to be a lot better.

A couple really workable warrior units would be rending/scything talon/leaping warriors. Full of close combat. With a new rule called 'run' they will be almost as fast as hormagaunts and will be able to stay within synapse range of your fastest units.

Another type would be a larger unit of warriors with deathspitters. the rules for blast templates have changed. If the rumored rules are true, then a large number of blast templates in a unit can be very accurate and very deadly.

There may be some other configs that I'm not thinking of atm... but those two seem like they will be quite usable come july.

3 zoanthropes would be a very good addition for synapse security. you can spread them amongst your forces and move them up. you will probably be taking one or two units with "without number" so that your troops choices can recycle and come back to objective markers in the later turns of the game. You can float a zoanthrope towards your table edge to pick them up as they re-emerge. Some combination of hive tyrants and warriors can cover the rest of your advancing forces, while the zoanthropes keep your reinforcements on the table.

In 5th edition, you will need those large numbers of bugs you just bought so don't worry about haiving to run an 8 mc list just to compete. be aware that carnifexes and hive tyrants are still going to be a very important part of your armies, but I'm sure you will see a rise in the importance of the little bugs and the medium bugs too.

have fun!

Right now, Tyranid Warriors are not very good. They cost a lot and don't end up doing much other than getting shot a lot. If you want synapse in a horde list there are a couple of options open to you. The first is hive tyrants. These guys are good no matter what. I would recommend a flying tyrant to keep your front lines covered and a walking one to bring up the rear. If you feel you need some extra coverage, zone thropes are a good choice. They are small and easy to hide, not to mention the fact that you can get 3 independent synapse nodes for one heavy support slot. Combine that with the ability to get a 2+ save and you really have a deal.

Now if you want to use warriors for the purpose of synapse, the best idea is to make them mobile and small. Keep squad sizes down and give them wings so they can jump around and hide. The basice idea of the game is "Don't get shot".

Threads should be like skirts: long enough to cover what's important but short enough to keep it interesting.

Thank you both. The new edition is something I have not looked into, not until the rumors gain more ground, but they are definitely something to consider. I appreciate the opponent perspective.

And from Phoenix, all that 'just a target' stuff is what I feared and have been hearing. I was planning 4 3-bug teams to spread out, or 3 4-bug teams. I may model the last six with wings but I'll have to take that to the modelling forum.

Thanks again!
