Hello

I'm building a Tau army. Here's the list, for reference: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/209796.page

Now, I have to decide on a colour sheme. Either it will be the standard Tau sheme, or something like this:

Camo Green for the armourplates. (The Desert Tan in the standard sheme.)
Dark Angels Green for the fatigues/underlying parts. (The Scorched Brown/Chaos Black in the standard sheme.)
Golden Yellow for Several of the plates. (The Scab Red in the standard sheme.) This would also be the Sept Colour.
I'm not sure about the exact name of each colour, since I'm basing myself on the Interactive Painer on GW.
The point is: a "lighter" colour for the armour, a "darker" colour for the fatigues/underlying armour, and a stark contrasting colour as sept Colour.

I'm also trying to figure out a simple system to denote ranks. I was thinking about painting the helmets/battlesuit heads:
Gold for Shas'O. (I love gold for my command units.)
Silver for Shas'El.
Bronze for Shas'vre.
Golden Yellow for Shas'ui.
Regular helmet colour for Shas'la.

Would this work out? I rather ask instead of painting and seeing that it sucks.

Thanks in advance!

I think it will come out quite nice. It tends to be the norm to have the darker colors on the under clothing and then lighter colors on the outer armor.

Thanks. I guess I'll try it out first on a single Shas'la. What undercoat should I use? Chaos Black?

I think base coat color tends to be a personal choice. Anymore I just use white.

With a green color scheme, you can get away with Chaos Black for priming purposes.

It sounds like the scheme will work, but I'd maybe go with a brown or tan color for the fatigues than DA green...just a thought...or do a darker shade of Camo green...How about Catachan green? I can't remember off the top of my head if it's lighter or darker than Camo green...

Just my 2 cents,
Thanks,
Chappy P!

You know the colours better than I do. I'm looking for a really, really dark green. The problem with Brown is that it isn't as visual coherent with the Green.

Check out Catachan green for the Fatigues and then go with Camo for the plates...I think that would have a better mess than DA green with Camo green

PS: For a brown I was thinking along the lines of Scorched brown, which is a nice a rich dark brown...If you did a khaki color again I think it would work well, but the Tau would be similar colored as the standard codex IG.

Camo Green and Catachan Green. That looked nice on the Interactive Painter.
That brown isn't so crazy, either, but then I'll stick to Chaos Black or Catachan Green for the Battlesuits. Brown would look too "rusty" on them. (On those parts, anyway.)
Thanks for the advice!

hey no problem! I'd say go with Catachan/Camo green for the combo and post pictures when you get something whipped up!

I try the colour in the Army Painter of Dark Crusade. This is the result. I think it looks quite nice, actually.

Well, I'm almost done with my first Battlesuits and Firewarriors.
However, I'm not sure yet how to paint my Kroot. I was thinking about some brown (like Bestial), their sashes and shoulder plates (dirty, washed) yellow, which will be my Sept colour.
Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I'd say a Dark Flesh with a dark brown or black wash. Maybe purple just to mix it up?
