9 Lesser Daemons
The game started out fairly well. We were playing Recon, and Dusk And Dawn revealed the first turn as a nightfight. He opted to let me go first since his shooting would be underminded. I took out two warwalkers and that was about it. He responded by crippling my rhino and killing a couple chosen and half the raptors with bladestorm.
2nd turn, I charged the wraithguard and the wraithlord with the chosen, raptors, and lord while the marines hopped out of their damaged rhino and laid waste to the fire dragons, killing them all. The noisemarines and obliterators missed all their shots. In assault they wiped out the wraithguard and their spiritseer, and consolidated into the wraithlord to avoid getting shot to pieces. I was banking on the powerfist in the chosen to take him out over a turn or so, since he'd been wounded by a meltagun shot already. In his turn, he punished the marine squad for killing his fire dragons, put some shots on the firebase in the back, and on a lucky shot managed to kill an obliterator with a single well-placed shuriken cannon shot as his dire avengers loaded back up and zipped out of harm's way. The assault with the wraithlord saw it taking no damage while it stomped on the chosen.
3rd turn my daemons still hadn't shown up, and I was starting to get concerned with my inaccuracy. This turn the obliterators and noisemarines again did nothing, missing all of their shots. The chaos marine squad killed the vyper near them with the brightlance, and the combat with the wraithlord dragged on, my champion still unable to cause a wound while it danced on the corpses of my men. His turn began with a bladestorm against the marines along with some punishment by the falcon, leaving them with 1 model with a meltagun before he decided to turn his attention to him and finish him off. The noisemarines took some punishment by the jetbikes, who then charged into assault with the remaining two noisemarines, who held their ground. The aspiring champion wounded the wraithlord, but it continued to step on the chosen.
4th turn My daemons arrived, summoning near the wraithlord roadblock and assaulting the guardians. One obliterator moved to support the noisemarines fighting the jetbikes to add some powerfist might to the combat, killing one, while the other missed the other vyper. The guardians were all but wiped out, but the survivors held their ground. In his turn he turned his guns to the remaining obliterator out of combat and did no damage [go invulnerable save versus pulse laser!], while the howling banshees charged the daemons fighting the guardians. The combat ended with the daemons being defeated, but they weren't outnumbered. In the combat with the jetbikes the obliterator finally succeeded in crushing them, and consolidated to move to start handling tanks. The chosen still couldn't hurt the wraithlord, but this time it missed both its attacks as well.
5th turn the obliterator that had killed the jetbikes moved up, missed the falcon [who hadn't moved over 6"!] with his meltagun AND the twin-linked shot, then assaulted and did nothing. The other obliterator shot the scatter laser off the vyper, and the noisemarines hit but couldn't damage the falcon. The daemons continued to grind away at the guardians while the howling banshees slowly chopped them up. In his turn he managed to kill the offending obliterator, but little else. The chosen finally managed to drag down the wraithlord, consolidating towards the vyper that had been plaguing me the whole game.
6th and final turn the now free chaos lord charged into the howling banshees, the raptors flew behind woods to stay out of fire, and the chosen moved towards the vyper. This turn turned out to be very important. The chaos lord only killed two banshees despite rolling a 5 for his daemon weapon - 3+ to hit and 2+ to wound just doesn't cut it sometimes. But the obliterator managed to destroy the wave serpent, pinning the dire avengers that spilled out while the chosen destroyed the offending vyper. In his turn the banshees were wiped out and the guardian ran away. His falcon turboboosted into my deployment zone to try to even up the game.
End result: Chaos victory, 545 point lead. The raptors were in his deployment zone and his falcon was in mine, but the final turn saw quite a bit of turnaround for the chaos army. Despite a horrible showing of [in]accuracy by my obliterators and noisemarines and a bout of weakness for my chosen aspiring champion, Chaos managed to carry the day!
